  • FINAL FOUR! Nobody on Earth saw this coming, let alone a 1-0 shutout in this spot. Unbelievable!

      Wow
Wow is right. Unbelievable. And really good baseball.

      • 6 runs in three games and it’s enough to make the final four. Incredible pitching and defense. A freshman closes two straight one run games in the World Series. Absolutely amazing.

Those are some nasty lineups they just shut down, too.

          • If we would have been told at the beginning of the school year that one IUP sports program was going to make the final four, nobody would have picked baseball. I would have probably said tennis. What an amazing run. This is the grittiest team on campus. For Jake Black to toe the rubber today in that spot and yield just three baserunners for eight inning was unreal. The diving stop by Pontoli was clutch and should be a Sports Center Top 10.

Pontoli had to react and stretch just right to catch it and then hold onto it. That was some play. If it gets by him the runner on 1st might have made it to 3rd base.

I wouldn't have said Final 4 but I kinda did expect vast improvement for the program. When you hire somebody like Kline with his baseball connections and his persona ... well, we see the results.

He's a lot like Joe Lombardi was in his early years at IUP.

He doesn't take any crap but the players really respond to him.

Word is their phone is ringing off the wall with transfers wanting to play for him.

That makes me laugh every time.

Don't forget, however, when the name initially changed the senior class voted for it to become The Fighting Squirrels (as a homage to the Oak Grove). That was ultimately (thankfully) overridden.

The Bear mascot/logo was just fine. I would have preferred it over the Hawks. The IUP Bears.

                        • I agree bears is much better than hawks. I hate this one.

I attended IUP from 1998 to 2003, and I loved being the Indians. I remember the band playing Cherokee as the football team ran onto the field. I wish and hope they would bring back Indians. I’m sorry but it makes sense town of Indiana.

Plus Indiana high school is still the little Indians. Do they still play Cherokee at games? Just wondering I honestly don’t know

Yes, IHS still plays it (it is the fight song).

So, we at least still get to hear it in the Homecoming Parade every year.

I agree with you on the Big Indians but it's unfortunately never coming back.

Crimson Hawks has grown on me over the years. It's at least somewhat different. Bears, my opinion, is a dime a dozen nickname.

A lot of the schools that were blackmailed by the NCAA over their Native mascot nicknames changed to a bird.

I thought the bear was getter.
