KMA-Ben’s success actually made the slippage of the FB program easier to take

Even if they slip to # 2 in the MIAA this year, they’ll still be one of best 8-10 teams in D2. A Coach like RW deserves a chance to “Wright” the ship.
That says more about the status of the Division than it does of NW. It ain't what it once was.

I don't think that is a fair assessment.

just so i understand you're saying here. For the sake of argument, Wright is let go at the end of this season, the new coach gets two seasons to make the playoffs, or they are gone? you really see that as a sustainable solution?

You guys usually wait until you miss the playoffs before you start with this bs.

Situational. Say we end the season 7-4 and miss the playoffs. The trend downward is and has been pretty clear and the decline in talent as well especially on the offensive side of the ball. New guy comes in and it depends on the same trends. Trending up, but not back to playoffs? Give it a chance if the talent pool looks better. Trending down and a worse record? Absolutely. This is a top tier program gotta manage it like one. Let it slip and it's gone.

I like your plan, but it won't happen because it makes too much sense. Andy Petersen (AD) is never going to fire football coach Rich Wright or any other coach. Greenwood Bearcat already put it out there when he gave the example of the baseball coach who should have been fired years ago.

Here's what needs to happen but won't. Stop the "good ole boys" inbreeding in the athletic department. Again, Peterson is not going to fire the coach, so step one is to change the AD. For step one to happen, the president would have to move Peterson out of the AD job and let Andy continue as the golf coach. Lance Tatum (president) has only been on the job a few months and he's still getting his feet wet. What are the chances that he wants to rock the boat in the athletic department...ahh, like zero. The push for change may have to come from the board of directors which might also include some "good ole boys". The alumni / donors will have to figure out a way to start strong-arming the powers to be. Can the core fan base bring that kind of heat? If not, the football slippage will probably continue, and then the slide is on and as Iowa Bearcat said, "Let it slip and it's gone".

                        • Hornet stings may hurt; but, you get over them. This might be Higgins's year. I'm still backing Coach Wright.

Big Money people could push the envelope if they decided to.

                              Even that takes years.

No, unfortunately he would probably take tremendous flack if he fired Wright. Baseball is a hard comparison though. Loe has been there nearly 25 years of average with a few peaks and now a valley. Many others could have gotten ride of him before Peterson. The valley now is deeper than ever before and a change should certainly be made though too.

The bench is not as deep as it once was. AD, Bostwick, Wright were all deserving of a shot. I don't think anyone there now is good enough to step up either, so I agree there. Put some pressure on Tatum, and I don't think it'd be hard to start shaking things up a little. He's a sports guy, it's not impossible, but yes, the club is the problem and someone needs to grow a pair before it's too late. I'm not sure what power donors have, or who in particular they may listen to either. I'm not in the know on that. Cancelling season tickets is a start though, numbers are powerful.

We're already on the slide. Question is how steep will it be.
