Re: Iup basketball
Closer look at The Sciences:
* Off to a 2-2 start with very tight losses to Kutztown and Bridgeport (Tournament team a year ago).
* Held Kutztown star Anthony Lee to just 14 points.
* Sciences has five guys in double digits ... very balanced with no true star. Appears rotation is about 9 deep.
* Always plays extremely smart and disciplined -- and can really frustrate opponents with 'old school' basketball. Think Princeton style.
* IUP blew them out a year ago while in a rebuild season ... almost whole roster is back plus some key additions. Prior to last year the previous 6 meetings against IUP were mostly all fairly tight.
* Not a big team by PSAC standards but they shoot well and don't foul much
* Certainly a game IUP should win. Sciences will win a lot of games this year. Big opportunity for another solid SOS builder.
* Teams often take them lightly then quickly realize they have a problem. Holding Lee to by far his sesson low is impressive. That isn't easy to do.

Re: Iup basketball
Pitt on the rise here. 6-0 to start the Capel era. Xavier Johnson is a talent! Now I'm afraid that he might leave school after one year. Goodness, if this group can just stick to together with a few more years of Capel recruiting they may just have something here.Originally posted by Chuck Norris View PostVery solid win for Pitt over a Saint Louis team expected to finish near the top of the A-10. Maybe they are better than we thought.
IUP would still crush them.
I believe that Iowa is on the slate next. Should be a stiff test. City game is fast approaching as well.

Re: Iup basketball
Shoootttt...We can't even get WVU to play a scrimmage against us, and now Pitt is refusing to so the same against IUP! NO WAY either would commit to playing a real game!!!Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View PostMake it real. Then there's no exhibition excuses. Take a beating you take a beating, but, if you don't, ...

That would be quite the double header...WLU v. WVU and IUP v Pitt...but only in an exhibition!!Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View PostRight. The first game would be WL beating WVU. Quite the doubleheader.
FACT is, Pitt will no longer play IUP. So, we'll never know. Joe giving them a scare a few years ago and the IUP ladies WINNING the game last year ended that relationship.
Pitt played UPJ instead.

Right. The first game would be WL beating WVU. Quite the doubleheader.Originally posted by boatcapt View PostI heard that somewhere!! I guess by the rules of osmosis, IUP would beat every team in the A-10 as well?? But only in a scrimmage or exhibition game! Hahahaha!!!

It was a nice win today but let's not forget it wasn't long ago Pitt laughed at A-10 teams (and won like 45 straight against that league).Last edited by IUPbigINDIANS; 11-21-2018, 02:05 PM.

I heard that somewhere!! I guess by the rules of osmosis, IUP would beat every team in the A-10 as well?? But only in a scrimmage or exhibition game! By that same rule of osmosis, Lincoln (PA) would beat WLU since Kutztown beat WLU and Kutztown lost to Lincoln. Heck, same rule would have Lincoln (PA) besting West Chester (WLU lost to Kutztown but beat WCU and Lincoln beat Kutz) Hahahaha!!!Originally posted by Chuck Norris View PostVery solid win for Pitt over a Saint Louis team expected to finish near the top of the A-10. Re: Iup basketball
That is called too much time in the Admirals Club at the airport. I'd never want to see the amount of hours of my life spent waiting for planes.Originally posted by IUPalum View PostGood work!!! A lot of great points and info. Still a lot of development to get to the promise land. Dancsecs surely can shoot but can he defend?

Re: Iup basketball
Some early season statistics after four games (small but decent sample size):
Record: 4-0
PPG: 84.3 Opponents PPG: 70.3
FG%: .496 Opponents FG%: .417
3PT%: .360 (32-89) Opponents 3PT% .404 (36-89)
FT%: .750 (63-84) Opponents FT% .796 (43-54)
RPG: 35.8 (versus 32 rpg)
Assists: 64 (16 per game)
Turnovers: 51 (12.8 per game)
Steals: 39 (9.8 per game)
Blocks: 14 (3.5 per game)
Attendance: 1,017 avg / 4 home games
Individual stats of note:
Jacobo Diaz: 24.5 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 35.5 minutes per game
Malik Miller: 15.8 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 13 to 12 assist to turnover
Dante Lombardi: 15.8 ppg, 26 to 10 assist to turnover (big improvement), 37.5 minutes per game (too high), 7 steals
Willem Brandwijk: 10.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg, .533 FG% (for the type of shots he is taking this needs to improve)
Armoni Foster: 8.8 ppg, 8 assists to 8 turnovers, 7 steals, 27 mpg (increasing each game)
Concerning area's early on:
* Dante's deep shot has been sporadic (10-32 for 31%)
* Giving up (9) made treys a game ... far too many open looks
* FT shooting at 75% is lower than most Joe teams (kept the Va State game way closer than it should have been)
* Rebounding has been about even (when you toss out Westminster) ... need to get more aggressive -- particularly on the offensive glass. Very aggressive rebounding teams like SRU, Gannon and Mercyhurst will cause this team some major problems if not fixed.
* Dante and Cobo are playing WAY too many minutes. Long season. Cobo didn't need to be playing with 3 minutes left against Westminster.
* IUP is about 2 for 30 in its last 30 alley-opp attempts. Time to put that to bed.
* The 'press' wasn't real impressive despite the size, speed and athletes IUP has ... need to keep working it and make it a huge tool for down the road.
* Marko Krivacevic and Chucky Humphries: Starting to see glimpses. Each game they are playing more aggressive. Need to keep the development moving forward.
* Offense is getting kind of predictable. If a team scouts IUP thoroughly they will pick up on a lot of tendencies.
Positive area's
* Cobo has hit elite status
* Malik Miller can do things at guard we haven't seen in awhile. Armoni Foster will be a star.
* The increased depth is huge. Bearer, Chucky and Marko, although not lighting up the stat sheet yet, keep the offense and defense in normal flow. Don't be shocked to slowly begin seeing Andrew Dancsecs.
* Defense, while not great, held Concord, VSU and Bowie to 72, 67 and 65 points.
* Far less erratic play than a year ago
* Willem is a completely different player than a year ago. He's a true presence now that has to be accounted on both ends.
* The 'knucklehead' factor is gone. The team is playing and not talking (nearly as much).
