Great stuff as always. You hesitate to think they’re tired, but they’ve kind of played like it. Expending the energy they do on the defensive end can impact the offensive end, although I don’t believe that’s the problem. Finally, it’s a long season and sometimes teams just get in a slump. Maybe that’s what this is for IUP. It had to be mentally taxing to stay unbeaten and #1 all that time and it may have taken a toll. Let’s just hope they break out of it down the stretch and heading into the post-season. The schedule, other than the trip to Cal, sets up pretty good for them.

* IUP's struggling offense scored 49 total points at Mercyhurst. California scored 48 points on the Lakers, in Erie, in the second half.
* IUP scored 87 points in the first Clarion game -- and called off the dogs with about 7-8 minutes to go. Two days ago, IUP struggled to put up 70 points against a lineup that started (4) freshman. IUP's final 6 points all call at the FT line.
* IUP's offense last broke 80 points on Jan. 21 -- that's a span of 8 games at 79 points or less. IUP is averaging just 69.5 ppg over its past (8) games. That is down nearly 12 ppg from a month ago.
* Trey ball shooting last 7 games:
- 7-23, 6-20, 6-22, 8-29, 11-22, 6-22, 6-23
* Playing to their opponents?
- IUP, of late, has scored more points against perceived strong teams than it has scored against teams well below .500
The savior, of course, has been their nasty defense.
- During this offensive funk, the Hawks held some high-scoring teams to very minimal totals.
- SRU (57), East Stroudsburg (53), Seton Hill (52), Mercyhurst (62), UPJ (60)
Edinboro visits the KCAC in 48 hours. This whole slump started in McComb. Hopefully it ends with the Fighting Scots.

Well, maybe except the Pirates because you hope their opponents play down to their level.
I think IUP has had enough of the regular season. They’ll get themselves up for the better teams (UPJ the other night), but sleepwalk through the others. They want to play for trophies at this point. That’s no excuse for unfocused play, but they are young adults and will sometimes approach things in young adult ways.
Clarion played out of its mind yesterday for 30 minutes. No doubt about it. They were fired up and fought hard. They should have won that game. Their inexperience showed when it was time to close the door. IUP started lackadaisical (again) and Clarion quickly got hope, confidence and momentum.
I don't think it's as simple as saying IUP isn't getting up for these games. This team has some issues. Winning has masked some things.
They beat Clarion by 37 a month ago. They should have lost yesterday. That's a pretty big swing.
This scoring funk should work itself out. But, Clarion's offense shredded them for 30 minutes yesterday. What was amazing was Clarion was on fire from deep ... and IUP wasn't making any adjustments to shut off the trey. They were taking WIDE OPEN deep shots all day.
IUP got some calls yesterday. They got lucky to win that game.
Edinboro is next and IUP struggled with them 3 weeks ago.

And geez, there were some really trashy comments coming out of that Clarion crowd. I went back and watched it again and there was some embarrassing stuff there. Way to show your a$$ today Clarion, my goodness.
It's amazing you can be in college and not realize if you sit and yell f-bombs all day at a public event there will be repercussions.
Granted, they got away with it until the final minute of the game and it took the official to remedy it (and not Clarion game-day staff).
The group refused to leave and it appeared the police officer was calling for backup. It was a real female cop (not a rental). They finally left (escorted) and threw their water bottles on the ground.
All in all it was a classy event.

If Clarion freshman Jayson Harris leaves after this season he may be one of the most coveted players in the portal.
They have an interesting issue with the HC. He has a good team coming back. Will he get another year?

Was there something specific you could make out?

I haven't seen a fan ejection in 30 years. Let alone 8 in one day.
To be fair, IUP travelled very well today. That 'IUP' chant really infuriates home crowds.
But, those ejected, were just scumbags. They should have been tossed during the women's game.Last edited by IUPbigINDIANS; 02-11-2023, 10:29 PM.

Bigger question may be how is Clarion 3-21?
They did that today without their 7-footer and without Jarmon.
Maybe they were on 25 Red Bulls but they played well.
