  • Re: PSAC WEST

That may be more of a bad sign for WL than a good sign for Cal.

Cal's roster just isn't built for a full West season. They are going to get mauled by the big monsters of the West. Different league. Danny will adapt.

If we believe the info you received, there was a 17 point swing in the second half. That ain't too bad. Not having seen the game or even have a box score to refer to, it kind of sounds like a typical WLU game. Opponent can hang for a while but ultimately get tired and fade at the end when the Toppers cruise to a double digit win.

Again, not having a box score to see who played and how many minutes makes it tough to gauge. Possible that our starting 5 could have been Hill, Alessandro, Yoakum, Saben and Watson just as easily as it could have been Arnold, Meininger, Bolton, French and Allen...Or it could have been some mix between.

ORRRRR...If you believe the information, it could be a bad sign for the PSAC West in that Cal is going to be really good.

OOORRRR...It could be the first scrimmage of the year, we are basketball starved, and we are putting too much emphasis on what effectively is an inter squad practice.

            Yea...I tend to agree.

Kind of like when a DII plays a D1 "close" in a scrimmage and then their supporters make all sort of grandiose proclamations about how they are ALMOST as good as a D1. It will never happen but it would be interesting for one of these upstart DII's to play the big name D1 in the REAL season and see how differently the D1 approached the game. It's one thing "staying close" in a scrimmage...quite a different thing when the real lights come on and the D1 is playing for realz!!

It wouldn't even need to be an upstart. Put WL or IUP or whomever against Duke or Kentucky in February -- real game -- and the D2 would lose by 50+ points. Maybe more.

Joe thinks Mercyhurst is the team to beat. Coaches can't vote for their own squad in preseason rankings.

I agree...For a DII to even stay close (within 20) the D1 would have to have a seriously BAD night or the DII to have one of those unconscious nights were every shot they take finds the bottom of the net. It could happen but only once in 4 blue moons!!

Think all the examples you show were exhibition games. While exhibition games are a step up from scrimmages, they are still not regular season games.

                            Valid point.

On the other hand, IUP is going to likely take the full throttle from Kentucky for probably at least 30 minutes. With the way Calipari recruits the one-and-done's ... these games are real important to them for as simple as getting some time to gel on the court together.

I like these games. All of IUP's most recent big seasons started with these types of games. They are glorified practices but it's a really cool experience for the players. They won't see even remotely a team with this athleticism and size again all season.

Two years ago they played Syracuse pretty tough. I remember Jim Boheim even slammed his clipboard calling a timeout. Then the next week Villanova stampeded them by about 60 points.

Glenville just about beat Marshall (113-108) the other night and Bellarmine gave Louisville a battle yesterday. Augusta did beat South Carolina.

The rest haven't been overly close so far.

Glenville hit 17 of 37 treys on the Herd.

Might be a sleeper down there with the new coach. That Pallydore (sp) is a beast.
