Aside from perhaps IUP & WLU (the seemingly safe teams), every other team in the region just because huge fans of the Fayetteville State Broncos! They appeared to have the resume to perhaps earn an at-large anyway. WSSU's only hope of getting in is a win today.

Winston-Salem is 2-0 this year versus Fayetteville State.

On the ladies' side, Fayetteville State will play Bowie State for the CIAA Tornament Championship.


FSU was a deep bubble team entering the week (not in this week's Regional Ranking).

Bowie State took down Virginia Union last night. Bowie and VUU are both making the NCAAs regardless. But ... an FSU win today would cause a lot of havoc. That could give the CIAA (4) teams. Lincoln also probably makes it outright.

You got that right. There are a lot of new Fayettevile State fans this morning. If Winston-Salem wins today (they beat FSU twice this year already) ... that NCAA field just shrunk to 7 spots.

Winston-Salem vs. Fayetteville (winner is guaranteed an NCAA spot)
UPJ at IUP ----------------> UPJ loses and that may be it for the Mountain Cats
West Chester at East Stroudsburg -------------> both are lurking on the bubble
West Virginia State at Charleston -------------> WVSU's blowout loss to Concord likely sealed its fate
Gannon at California ----------------> Virginia State going out so early in the CIAA's likely opened some potential doors
Mercyhurst at Slippery Rock -------------> Lakers better win ... huge trap game in a hostile road enviornment

That causes a whole lot of problems for the bubble teams as WSSU wasn't even really on the bubble prior to tonight. The field has shrunk to (7) spots.

IUP and WL are in regardless of what happens in the PSAC and MEC Tournaments. So, five spots left.

On the WOMEN'S side ... another CIAA upset.

FAYETTEVILLE STATE upsets Bowie State to win the title.

This is another team that has not been in the regional rankings. It's now VERY possible the CIAA could get 3-4 teams in to the dance (deservedly so). At minimum, they are getting three (FSU, Bowie and Virginia Union).

If Gannon or IUP wins the PSAC it's highly likely the PSAC only gets two teams in to the tournament. The MEC will get three.
