I haven't gone over their roster position-by-position to guess at what next year looks like. There is no way of knowing. So, IMHO, to say that it won't happen again is really going out on a limb.

Plus, the irony of the current framework is that the better the players a team has, the more likely they are to lose those players to the portal or to the NFL.
PSU’s leading receiver is gone. I’m not sure what Allar’s draft stock looks like but this isn’t necessarily a great class otherwise and teams are always hungry for QBs. Their two leading rushers are both juniors and it wouldn’t surprise me if one or both go pro. There’s a chance that neither does and those two plus Allar come back to form a monster senior backfield for one last try but the offense is definitely in something of a limbo with draft decisions for their key contributors.

Why would you settle for the crapshoot that is college football’s terrible OT format when all you need is a field goal? Allar is an experienced supposed NFL prospect. They were two or three decent completions from FG range, and if they weren’t there, then yes, be safe and.OT is in your back pocket. He made a terrible decision and throw. Blaming Franklin here is a massive reach to push a narrative.

Yes because they were running the ball and in OT starting at the 25 they would be in a better shot than relying on a guy who was terrible all game with his passes.

And that opportunity still would’ve been there. Going to OT should’ve been the absolute worst outcome of that drive. If PSU just sits on the ball and then loses in OT, then Franklin is gutless for not even trying to win it in regulation according to those who simply want to crush him. Anyone blaming him was simply waiting all playoff for PSU to lose so they could pin it on him regardless of how the game actually played out.

Penn State had a successful year. Coming into the season PSU was ranked #8 in the AP and other rankings. So, had they made it to the NC it would have been an overachievement. Disappointing for Nittany Lion fans but it was a fun year.

I grew up with Penn State and then I was losing interest but the team this year got me back as a fan.

He went 0-3 vs the three best teams on his scedule.

That has zero to do with anything I’ve said.

I totally get that. One team is going to be happy at the end of the playoff. Everyone else is disappointed. Some more than others. That was a gut punch ending for Penn State, but 130 other teams can only wish they got that far.

The frustration in Creepy Valley is this is the rare year they were real close in talent level to the top of the food chain.

Not to mention they lost to a Notre Dame team ravaged by injuries and illness.

There's a lot of excuses coming out of State College but that team should have beat ND by 10 points.

PSU had the stars aligned. They had two easy games prior. They without question had a superior roster Thursday night.

                    Yet ...

James can't beat elite teams. It's the same movie over and over. The ending is always the same. Does he get too nervous and conservative? Maybe. Something changes.

                    Going 1-18 vs Top 5 teams isn't a coincidence.

I think he had a team to win the whole thing this year.

He reminds me of Tort. They just find a way to lose when the lights are the brightest.

What is being overlooked in all this was that the game was in that position largely because a Penn State DB slipped and fell on his butt to hand Notre Dame an easy TD on a previous drive. Without that tying touchdown, Allar and Penn State are not in that situation. Whether you want to criticize Franklin for going for it or not, Allar has enough experience that he shouldn't be throwing a duck over the middle in that situation.

I’m not disputing JF’s record against the elite. I’m looking objectively at Thursday night. And I don’t agree that they had a superior roster and should’ve won by 10. Neither did Vegas.

I wasn't trying to be combative.

Just saying we'll have this same discussion when he loses to Ohio State in October.

He’s partly responsible for the loss. His QB was not having a good day. Gotta figure something else out

Enter the Beau Pribula debacle. That changed things.

All of the excuses and finger-point don't matter. Penn State lost, fair and square. Somebody wins, somebody loses.

Correct. But, that's why message boards exist.

Scan the PSU threads. They make IUP's board seem G-Rated.
