I watched the scrimmage as well. The one thing that stood out to me was I thought this was as physical a scrimmage as I have seen. They got after it. I am with chip it was a lot of back and forth. Probably what you want. You don't want one side of the ball whipping the other side. The one thing I will say is they did some solid recruiting from the end of spring ball to fall camp. In my opinion they addressed the offensive skill positions and secondary. The Running backs are way better. The central Washington transfer looks good and there are some solid guys behind him. I think they brought back the okoye kid from a couple of years ago. I think that was him not for sure I thought he was very talented. It will be interesting.

I think Johnson will start. I think his ability to improvise is the difference between him and Gibson. They both were pretty good. I thought the kid from Celina was pretty good for a freshman.

Looks like we watched the same scrimmage. :)

Going back and reading MIAA blog comments after Lynn was hired, they often remarked about the physical style of play his teams put on the field. That would be different.

I went to the scrimmage. Left after the 2nd round of Gibson and Johnson at QB. It was a too hot and breezy (with some fine dust in the wind).

Kind of a ho hum scrimmage (with refs). 1's and depth chart 2's defense ahead of offense. Had more DL edge pressure than last year. Even had some push from the DT's. DB's not laying 10 yards off the LOS. Playing up tight. Better coverage caused quite a few situations where QB's had to run.

Gibson came out first with the 1's. 2nd series was Johnson with the 2's. This was reversed on the 2nd rotation. Johnson moved the team better. Except for 1 pass he'd like to have back. That was a LB contested pass to the sideline 10yds downfield that was bumped into the air and caught by the DB. I thought he passed the ball well. Was working through progressions. Threw a beautiful 30 yard post TD pass in the back of the end zone dropped by WR.

QB with the 3's was Celina kid Porter. His unit scored twice on TD passes. He seems to have a knack for making plays (against lesser depth chart D). Kept the chains moving. 2 TD passes.

Kicker Preston Gregg continues to impress. He hit a 45 yd FG Into about a 15 mph cross breeze in his face. Would have been good from 55.

Lot's of kids played. Coaches have plenty of tape to watch. Next week's scrimmage will see those getting PT winnowed down to the game depth chart.
