    I didn't know 2010-2011 was a decade???

Try playing someone at home that is good and quit ducking national contenders!!!

From 2010-2011 season to present is a decade.
Regarding good teams, few are interested. Nearby d1 schools have no interest in exhibitions. You have evidence to contrary?

Perhaps one reason non mec schools would prefer not to play wlu is relative scoring margin.
For 9 of their 11 mec opponents, wlu gave them the worst defeat of the season in terms of scoring margin.
only wheeling and notre dame suffered their worst defeat by teams other than wlu.
for example, concord lost by 7 at iup. They lost by 42 at wlu and by 25 in Athens.
Purpose is not to say wlu is definitely better than iup, as it is all about match ups.

Salem lost to cal pa by 15 and a week later lost to wlu by 50.
ohio Dominican lost to nationally ranked Indianapolis by 2 and a month later lost to wlu by 44.

It is just that the wlu style is so unique that it can make decent teams look really bad. That is why wlu led the nation in scoring margin.

      • Casualty of covid: Daemon was to play at wlu after decisively defeating wlu in ny last year. Their center is special. Was looking forward to rematch.

WLU plays nationally and regionally ranked teams at home every year...Just last season, we played Charleston and Fairmont at home and on the road. In the recent past, they have played ranked NDC and Wheeling at home and on the road. To say WLU doesn't play any national contenders is a red hearing used by some to attempt to minimize WLU's regular season performance while burnishing the regular season performance of their team.

          • Findlay is a premier program, having defeated Ohio State 70-68 in exhibition in Nov 2007 and winning the national championship in Mar 2009, going 36-0.

After losing to Findlay at the ASRC in overtime in 2011, WLU went to Findlay and I watched WLU put a major beatdown on them, leading by as many as 28 points in front of a shocked, packed house. This was the last time Findlay wanted any part of WLU.

Not easy for WLU to find opponents, especially at the ASRC. WLU went to Shaw in 2019, but they were having a down year.

Nice try... those are your league games and aren't legit contenders year in and year out. Go kick rocks with that ****!!!

Apparently that doesn't count since WLU didn't play and beat them at home...Also apparently doesn't count playing nationally ranked opponents that come from your own conference. ONLY thing that apprently proves how strong you are is to play out of conference national ranked programs at home!!

It's nice when you can define your own metric of greatness! You can ignore everything except that which "proves" YOUR program is great!! Hahahahahah!!!!

                  Good one boat!
Far from ducking contenders, wlu spends great effort to try to get good out of conference match ups. It is just that many are not interested. Besides risking a blow out loss, teams may reason that playing against wlu has limited upside, since no one in their conference plays the wlu style. Kudos to Daemon for accepting a home and home.

However, Some teams will scrimmage wlu like cal pa, lake Erie, Ashland and Findlay for a change of pace in preseason.

                    wlu 6th in latest poll.
IUP is 5th, which is so sad for those young men given that their season is cancelled.

                      • "no sooner than first of January" according to Mec. Unless the knuckleheads in the relevant counties get serious about staying away from people ( yes thanksgiving and Christmas), I could see MEC cancelling the season.
I did a pivot table in Excel on Ohio data - 330k cases. Daily Cases started climbing in Oct. Then it really went nuts just after Nov3.
Running out of remdesivir and nurses getting sick at some hospitals.
13% tested positive at drive thru a week before thanksgiving. Dolts think a negative test week before traveling is a green light.

Wait and see approach is the cause of no schedules.

                        • Watched wvu games this week. Incredible size and strength and potential. Maybe it is the curse of being blessed with incredible talent, but I saw so many fundamental errors.

                          - bigs bringing ball down below their heads on a pass in backcourt against press and getting it stolen
                          - ball sticking in point guard hands. Few passes to rotate the ball
                          - players standing around on offense; little movement without ball
                          - defenders not blocking out allowing offensive rebounds by opponent with clear path for rebound and put back
                          - trouble defending a spread, positionless offense. Giving up open threes.
                          - many possessions with bad/difficult shots

Basketball IQ of wlu is so much higher. Wlu typically gets a good shot on every possession. If wlu got hot from three, who Knows? I can see why wvu would not want to play them early in season.

                            • only picked one student-athlete per team. Some of these players have some stiff competition from their own teammates, in which case, I've noted those also in consideration.

Dalton Bolon, West Liberty: West Liberty has averaged 102.8 points per game over the past three seasons, and Bolon has led the charge, scoring 1,757 points over that span. Ben Howlett's teams simply score points, and if Bolon is healthy, he's a surefire All-American. He's not a one-trick pony either, putting up 12 double-doubles last season.
Other Hilltoppers considered: Pat Robinson III, Will Yoakum

                            • Just to continue my rant against the quality of D1 basketball team play with some stats comparing West Liberty and WVU.
I am NOT saying an elite D2 team can defeat a D1 team consistently.
I grant that D1 players are bigger, stronger and quicker. But if one just looks at the basketball IQ, purity of the game and the teamwork, much of D1 is mighty ugly. I find elite D2 basket ball much more enjoyable to watch.

                              (Gonzaga is one exception)

Granted the 3 point line is farther away, but WLU players typically some distance behind the 3 point line.

These are stats from 2019-2020 season. Both teams played 31 games.
WVU led in only two stats: Offensive rebounds and Blocked shots.

Key quality stats IMHO are points per possession, Assists Per Possession, and Turnovers Per Possession.

                              • Pretty clear that, at our level, WLU is fundamentally "better" than WVU. NOT saying that WLU would beat or even hang with WVU in a real game. Interesting comparison would be comparing WLU to the roughly #4 D1 team this year.
