Kelly Mazzante has finally been scooped up. She's going to Bucknell as an assistant coach.

They are lucky she stayed as long as she did. The D2 assistant is a pretty short stay.

Allen Payne will be the next to go.

Can't blame them ... just how it goes at this level.

Tom's scout team takes a major hit. Having Kelly Mazzante to practice against daily sure helps.

She has probably been waiting for the opportunity at Bucknell in order to coach D1 and be close to home.

A couple days ago I thought the shelf was full with guards and no more would be coming.

Things change pretty quickly. Stay tuned.

There appears to be another D1 transfer in the mix. I believe 2 years' eligibility (although it may be 3 years).

This is another player in the David Morris category. I would guess if they land him then the two incoming freshmen both redshirt -- or at least one for sure.

Former IUP assistant coach Steve Piotrowicz is the new Cathedral Prep boys basketball coach. He played at Prep and at Gannon. He coached under Joe during the 2013-14 season as the second assistant behind Matt Hahn.

and your point... it's a HS job, nothing prestigious there.

Good for Steve ... really developed himself as a player in his years at GU and a super-nice kid.

Full disclosure -- I am a McDowell supporter, but I still wish him the best. And I've softened my stance on the Ramblers because they were the school that gave us Adam Blazek!

and McDowell has never given anyone anything other than James Connor.

I've become a big fan of the Erie-regional basketball scene. It's given IUP several star players.

Just on this upcoming team alone: David Morris, Malik Miller, Armoni Foster and Ethan Porterfield. Morris and Armoni getting the next three years together ... sick.

                              Armoni 45 minutes from Erie

Malik, Porterfield over an hour from Erie.

                              Not quite Erie athletes.

Valid, but they are right in GU, Mercy and Edinboro's backyard. Watching 'MoTown' smoke GU for the next three seasons will be painful for the Erie faithful.

What do you have up there today ... 9" or 10" of snow? lol.

Is Park Place still open near the Gannon campus? That used to be a fun bar.
