Pitt’s defense may not be good. It may be great. Their linebacker unit is elite. Kyle Louis is on pace to be a 1st team All-American. If you don’t believe me, check his numbers. Not another defensive player in the country has the combined numbers he’s put up. Playing at an elite level.
Pitt’s D got a lot better when Sean Fitzsimmons got a late start to the season a few weeks ago after a camp injury. That helped the DL a ton, and the combination of elite play at LB has really created a pass rush that also stops the run effectively. The secondary is also night and day better than at the beginning of the season.
I’ll be heading down to Dallas next week for the SMU game. Really looking forward to what’s shaping up to be a huge game with national implications - and it’s not a stretch to say that.
My gut feel right now is Pitt probably loses in Dallas. Rhett Lashlee is a good offensive scheme guy, and he gave Pitt problems when he was OC at Miami. I have liked SMU’s progression on offense this year. As well as Pitt’s playing on D, they will score. And I currently don’t have confidence Pitt will score enough to win there. But it’s a lot of fun to be in the position they are in right now.

I’ve never seen anything like this in my life. Looking at the other SEC and ACC games next week which will be split between the ABC/ESPN networks, I’ll be very surprised if Pitt doesn’t garner the 8:00 time slot on ABC.
Ohio State and Penn State play at 12:00 on the Big Noon game on Fox. That typically means College Gameday won’t go to that location. So there’s a good chance Pitt/SMU gets Gameday.

SMU has to beat those pesky Blue Devils first.

I’m just glad I told everyone to not overreact to the guys who left the Pitt program last year. I recall a number of posts in this thread taking shots at Narduzzi and Pitt for the large exodus of players.
Pitt was 3-9 last year. Anybody who wanted to leave, good riddance. Kyle Louis is a likely 1st team All-American and Rasheem Biles likely lands on the All-ACC team this year. Those guys didn’t play because they were behind Bengally Kamara and Solomon Deshields. If you’re interested, go take a look at what those guys are doing this year. Dayon Hayes left this team because he “wanted to go somewhere he could win.”
The QB situation last year was horrendous, which led to a ton of their problems. But the exodus of guys out, specifically on their defense, which gave way to guys now starting (7 new starters entering the year), is the actual difference on that side of the ball.

7-0 for the first time since 1982 I think. I was 3.Originally posted by IUP24 View Post

I’d agree if SMU wins tomorrow there isn’t a bigger game next week, outside of PSU/OSU, than Pitt/SMU. At the least, I’d say they get Fowler/Herbstreit on the call. Fox and Gameday do occasionally go to the same place if it’s a really huge game and Penn St/Ohio State probably qualifies. But maybe Penn State loses tomorrow. Wisconsin should at least have the defense to keep it close.

Can they flex the PSU/OSU start? I'm sure they'd (network) love to get that off the dreaded noon slot.Originally posted by Chuck Norris View Post

Obviously that's the main attraction.

No, they can’t. Fox gets the first pick out of Fox, NBC, and CBS out of the lineup of B1G games. And they always pick the best game for their Big Noon Kickoff.Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View Post

That’s the deal all those schools signed up for.
To add…
I really don’t care what time they play though. And I don’t care if OSU/PSU is the main attraction. The reality is that if you look at next week’s schedule, there are only 2 games with national implications. Pitt is involved in one of them.
Win or lose, that’s cool.Last edited by IUP24; 10-25-2024, 08:35 AM.
