That college sports has become this is terrible, IMO. I see the same sentiments being expressed by the posters who follow it the most.

Right now, correct me if I'm wrong, there are 18-19 year old kids who might not really even qualify academically, making more money than the university president. That's crazy. I don't think it's sustainable in its present form. I think the relationship with the universities has to change somehow. I don't know how, though.
Luckily we're D2 fans. If you really follow a major D1 program, you don't have a choice but to really follow this side show. We don't even know half of what really goes on in major recruiting. It is a nasty, corrupt world.

Did you know the real big dogs like Alabama and Georgia hired actual general managers (think pro sports) to run their 'money' and recruiting? I'm not going to call it 'payroll' but in a way it is.

In the written sports coverage world (print or online) I find that news and analysis still tends to generally lean towards the teams. The biggest exception I can think of is probably Fangraphs and even that is somewhat of a more recent change (~6 years or from a site closing in on 20 years of coverage). I do agree that former players tend to be the biggest supporters of current players getting big paydays, at least from my experience listening/watching.
That’s what I’m mostly alluding to. The talking heads on tv that hate the owners and hate the establishment, if you will. To your point, the sports writers mostly just report things.

Someone said that major universities are now just hedge funds with a school attached. The endowments that fund these things are huge. The tuition they collect is almost irrelevant. But the connections and gravitas a place like Penn State has is huge, and people pay a lot just to be connected to it. They could give a free education to everyone at the branch campuses and not notice it in their finances

That was wild. I think the pass truly was incomplete, but I don’t know how you reverse the call on the field. No way was there indisputable evidence.

Of course the conspiracy theorists started immediately saying the ACC didn't want it's lone contender to lose to a 2-2 team (at home).

I'm with you ... no idea how that got overturned being it was called TD on the field.

I feel like I normally have a pretty good grasp on what is and isn’t a catch for both the NCAA and NFL rules; last nights overturn decision completely baffles me. Looked a lot like plenty of other 50-50 balls and the video evidence I’ve seen floating around doesn’t seem anywhere near substantial enough to throw out the initial ruling.

Kinda thought that the refs guessed on the call as there was no immediate signal...........maybe not in position or couldn't see, therefore a guess knowing it would go to replay. Just a theory.

Kalen DeBoer has done an amazing job at Bama already. Remember all the player defections when Saban left? I don’t know how many kids they lost but it was a lot. It kind of looked like the wheels were coming off down there but he righted the ship and now has arguably the best team in the country. I don’t think Georgia is as good as they have been, however. I expect them to lose at least one more game and maybe even miss the playoffs. I’m not sold on their QB who is inconsistent, or their defense.

Alabama can lose a few four- and five-stars and replace them with more of the same. Many other programs are lucky to land a few players of that caliber in a recruiting class.

                            • You can now place bets on who the next coach will be in Gainesville.

Lane Kiffin and Deion Sanders are getting most of the action.

                              • Pitt running back Rodney Hammond reinstated. As I told everyone before, it was not an academic issue and was not a violation of university rules. The suspension came from Heather Lyke, not Pat Narduzzi. And Heather Lyke is, well...
