On top of that, they not only got cold temperatures, the wind was whipping all afternoon meaning if you got behind you were in big trouble. Alabama wasn’t going to win up there today either. Penn State has its flaws but they are a very good team with a few guys on the field today that will be first round draft picks when they come out.

SMU's OL was destroyed. QB ran for his life the whole game.

This Tennessee team getting boat raced in Columbus doesn’t help the SEC’s cause. Am I doing this right? I haven’t seen Lane Kiffin tweet about it. So I suppose this does not help the SEC narrativeLast edited by IUP24; 12-21-2024, 08:35 PM.

Had he just taken the 1st down on that opening drive on the 4th down and score, I wonder if he would have gotten a little bit more confidence. They were a better team than they showed today, but such is life.

What’s hilarious is that 3 of these 4 games (thus far - I’m posting this when it is 21-3) have been blowouts. Clemson had a puncher’s chance, but never threatened to actually win it. Indiana scored in garbage time, but they were bludgeoned.
It almost looks a lot like it did when, I don’t know, there were a ton of non-competitive games in a 4 team playoff.

You’ll end up with the same 4 teams you would have ended up with previously had these conferences not expanded and forced this.
This was just a money grab.

With paying players now put in the open and one or two teams who did it covertly and stockpiled all the best players no longer a thing and players filtering out..a playoff expansion was necessary.
It’s also putting a dent into myths.. like every team in the SEC would destroy everyone else.

Thats the factual story of what happened. This has nothing to do with paying players at all. The playoffs expanded because the B1G and SEC expanded.

This is better. Every other level has a sizable field..why should FBS be different? D2 could cut back to 16 teams..28 is overkill. Todays D2 game was not even competitive.
My point is now that players can get paid legally and the portal..the days of a Saban having third stringers who’d start everywhere else is over. So having 12 teams makes sense..8 would be better.
So much for the SEC being so dominant.

This is a perfect year for the playoff. It's so wide open this year. And with the giant conferences there are a lot of differences in schedules. Like Indiana got a gift of schedule in the Big 10 and partly because of that they went 11-1.
There are blowouts in every level of football that has playoffs. Should the PSAC not even get in the playoffs in D2 because they arent going to win anytime soon? I could've predicted atleast 3 of the final four in the FCS bracket this year.
And there are blowouts in national title games.....Super Bowls....one team lays an egg in a big game. It's always a possibility. These games at home sites have a National Championship energy in these home crowds. I'd much rather be watching this Ohio State- Tennessee game at Ohio St on Decemeber 21st in a tournament game even though it's a dud.....than see it in a meaningless Citrus Bowl on New Years day at 1pm.
I'd also just assume see 16 teams. If theyre going to take the Big 12 Champ. A G5 champ. Alabama, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Miami wouldve made the bracket better. 8 on campus first round games this weekend. If they're doing 4 weeks of games anyway.
Indiana got in because the Big Ten has 18 teams. 7 teams had a .500 record or better in conference. Indiana played 2 of them. 5 teams had a 6-3 conference record or better. Indiana played 1 of them. 7 teams were 3-6 or worse in conference. Indiana play 6 of them.
Cignetti got a lottery ticket in a schedule. But they had to be in at 11-1
The ACC had Miami, Clemson, and SMU all at the top of the conference and none of them played each other in the regular season.
The Big 12 had Colorado, Arizona State, Iowa St, and BYU tie for first place. Only 1 game between those teams in the regular season.Last edited by EdinboroFB; 12-21-2024, 10:31 PM.

We could have all the top teams in random bowls not playing each other then the AP and UPI vote afterwards.
I have an issue with the talking heads and the consumer at large using every game as a data point to open an argument about how or why the flawed team they root for would have been more competitive than the flawed team that got in and looked bad.
We’ve totally lost the plot. What I have a problem with is so many people who are… 1) Casual fans chiming in because they just want handpicked matchups they believe will be most interesting them. 2) NFL fans who only watch large programs loaded with future NFL guys that are advocating for more of said programs because the teams they didn’t watch all year didn’t look good in the only game they saw of them. 3) Talking heads who get on the microphone and advocate against teams who were deserving of earning a bid because they were non-competitive.
What Kirk Herbstreit said on Gameday this morning about Indiana was shameful. And to be clear, I didn’t expect Indiana to win or be competitive. But they were deserving of getting there. Much like SMU. These guys are advocating for legitimately just scrapping the regular season at large, and handpicking the matchups that the networks would like to see, regardless of what any team did.
Kirk Herbstreit had an issue with Indiana and SMU’s level of play this weekend. But he has no issues with how Tennessee or Clemson looked. It’s funny how that works. There were some bad blowouts in the four team playoff that, supposedly, now are okay because of the helmet the team on the receiving end was wearing. It’s not okay for SMU or Indiana to lose convincingly… But it was fine for Oklahoma to lose 63-28. Or for Ohio State to get boat raced 31-0. Or for ND to lose 30-3 to Clemson. Not sure people remember Bama losing the national championship to Dabo 44-16. Those routes were all okay for the media and casual fan, but the ones involving SMU and Indiana were not. I have a serious issue with that.
If these guys desire an NFL structure where you see the college equivalents of Bills/Chiefs, Steelers/Ravens, Eagles/Cowboys, etc., then they need to use their pulpits to advocate for massive structural change to college football as a whole. Use their platform to advocate for blowing up the conferences and reshaping everything. Smaller leagues. Regional formats. NFL scheduling models. Etc. Eliminate subjectivity in the playoffs by defining clear pathways (like the NFL with division champions, wild cards, etc.). No more selection committees. If Colin Cowherd believes Texas will be better than A&M, SMU, Texas Tech, and TCU, put them all into a small regional conference. Let these teams play games that matter all year and have clearly defined paths to the playoffs. I recognize what I’m suggesting is a pipe dream and won’t happen. But THAT is what everybody should be advocating for. Don’t scream about Indiana making it. Complain about the process that allows for that to rightfully happen.Last edited by IUP24; 12-22-2024, 05:41 AM.
