I suspect we'll hear some football news this week. They had quite a few transfer players in this weekend for visits.

They must have had a good fundraising year because they had some players in from all over.

Is walking on the grass there actually treated as a borderline criminal act or was that always a wise tale?

I imagine it was decades ago. Most of the rules that would shock us public school kids are mostly things in conflict with their strong social religious views. They don't allow any sort of national student clubs without approval from the trustees, so there are no national fraternities (only GCC founded ones) and only national academic honor societies that have been approved by the trustees, etc. Surprisingly they have a College Democrats club. They require you live on campus unless commuting from your parents house. They recently eliminated any sort of office or programs supporting non-white students because a task force report said they didn't believe it could exist without any sort of outside agenda, so according to what they told the feds, there were exactly 15 Black students at GCC in 2021-22. I imagine most were recruited to play a sport. The ways to get "kicked out" are big violations of conservative Christian beliefs: pornography (their campus internet blocks it), premarital sex, masturbation, romantic sleepovers, alcohol/drugs, etc. They are exempt from Title IX (federal rules dictating men & women get equal treatment) so they can get away with a ban on sororities. There are two women's groups on campus: an advisory group related to school policies and a women's Bible study group. There is one multicultural group on campus.

But yes, its a great school academically. I believe considered a top value for certain types of engineering. But everything flows through that Christian conservative lens, so being in the wild working with the animals takes some adjustment. Its not all Bible thumpers and women looking for a nice Christian boy to marry. I have a friend who went there to play football and I was SHOCKED when he told me he went to Grove City. The town is no longer dry so there are students who enjoy themselves as long as they don't come back to campus drunk. They also venture to nearby Westminster and Slippery Rock for parties. GCC gets annoyed because SRU won't call them to tattle on their students.

I knew several people from high school who went there. After reading your post, most of them fit the general profile. It certainly wouldn't be for everybody but I could see the appeal for some.

Just imagine what college would have been like if we lived in the dorms for 4 years. And there was mandatory church stuff. And there were virtually no students who looked or thought different than us. To me that's a huge problem - I don't know how someone is expected go out into the working world having spent nearly all of their life to that point surrounded by a homogenous population.

Just imagine what college would have been like if we lived in the dorms for 4 years. And there was mandatory church stuff. And there were virtually no students who looked or thought different than us. To me that's a huge problem - I don't know how someone is expected go out into the working world having spent nearly all of their life to that point surrounded by a homogenous population.

My last semester at IUP I had to move back in to the dorms. I was a December grad and had one semester left. It was about impossible to find a half-year lease back then. It was quite the experience to go from being an outdoor pet for three years back in to that world.

That said you got real popular being 21 in the dorms. lol.

Looking back I didn't dislike dorm life. I think you make most of your college friends that first year in the dorms. It's funny what they call 'dorm life' today. The days of a group restroom/shower at the end of each hall are long gone. I remember waiting in line for a computer in the basement computer labs (kids today would be amazed by that notion). Those buildings would be about 100 degrees in September and in to October ... and then the heat would be full blast all winter. I lived in Esch which at that time had the big basketball court outside (with lights). That was cool.

I lived in Esch too. I was on the second floor in the Summer of 1984. I was third floor in Spring 1985 which was a bit of a personal nightmare for me. That second stint was why I had my own room in Oakland Hall for the remaining three years.

6-4 is an odd height to be listed as an athlete. Usually that's the quick, athletic little guy.

Yeah...but that West Texastan stadium is sick...I mean if he goes there I couldn't blame him based on their stadium alone. Of course he'd still be stuck in the dreary landscape that is Canyon, Texastan.

The last grad transfer had two years too. That didn't work out.

Well, they knew that going in with Sexton. He told them before he signed he may only play one more year and then join the workforce.

There's definitely some risk bringing in players from so far away. You may only get one year.

They didn't get this kid yet. I'm sure they are still actively chasing some other QBs.

I really like the RB from West Florida. He's from Ohio so they may have a shot at him. He's not going to come cheap. It makes me wonder if Stewart's recovery time is longer than they are leading on (Tort has already said he's likely to miss the first several games). Tort said Stewart had surgery the first week of January. The end of August will be 8 months. That's a long recovery time so I'd have to guess he had an ACL or MCL -- obviously something serious.
