If he were to leave UCO for NW, I think it would be a straight kick in the nuts to the players to make a lateral move for another program in the conference. Doing that before trying to make a PO run seems like poor strategy.
For the right compensation package, and level of control, I think he could look past it.

[/Sure, I’m just saying I hope he would try to keep it quiet until their season is over.

This whole convo may be completely moot.

NW is apparently broke. Are they going to offer him free Pagliai's and Mozingo Lake VRBO's for life?

All schools are broke until it comes to football. They’ll sell someone’s left nut if they have to for the football program.

Damn, you are testy right now, huh? I’m just saying I think the situations are different and therefore might result in a different approach (if even relevant at all).

                • AP indicated that several of the coaches they are interested in are in the playoffs now but he didn’t specify D2 playoffs…hmmm

                      • Really looking forward to hearing where our NOW former HC/Defensive Coordinator Richard Wright goes next.

If NW doesn't bring Adam Dorrel back to Rickenbrode/Bearcat Stadium, does AD lure RW to Edmond, OK? One hell of a winning team that would bring with those two together on the same side of the field ... AGAIN. Frickin' scarey. Scenario gets even way better for Bearcats ... HC Adam Dorrel and a DC Richard Wright step onto the field once again in Maryville, MO to do the thing those two together did to bring on one of the GREAT shows of NCAA DII Football on the offensive and defensive sides of the field. All the while, I believe DC Richard Wright simply awaits the offers that might elevate to another level from NCAA D1 Football programs. At RW's choosing to move on ... he gets to offer his final thanks to NW ... his Bearcat players ... and move on to the Big Time. Of course, Mel 'Coach T' Tjeerdsma will always remind all of us, his genius Defensive Coordinator Scott Bostwick firmly believed ... "The 'Big Time" is wherever you are at." What an incredible personality Bostwick had. Never forgotten. Coach T had a way to bring the best of the best to Rickenbrode Stadium. Coach T had a bunch of 'em. Richard Wright will always be grateful to be part of that and all those glory years of Bearcat Football.

I also wonder if RW would have any interest in an offer to take over another DII H/C position? Not sure why. His forte' is clearly a role as a Defensive Coordinator. The man is a genius. I think he already has a shot signing on with a solid FCS or a pretty dang good D1 program ... even if it means it might be that he might have to make a decision to take on a role at a more 'elite' D1 program as an Assistant Defensive Coordinator.

                        • Northwest Missouri State Will Not Renew Wright's Contract

                          November 19th, 2024 5:00pm

                          By Jon Dykstra, Maryville Forum

MARYVILLE, Mo. — Northwest Missouri State will immediately begin a national search for a new football coach as the university announced on Tuesday that the Bearcats will not renew the contract of Rich Wright.

Wright completes an 7-season tenure at Northwest as 65-22 with three MIAA championships and five NCAA playoff appearances. He spent six seasons as the defensive coordinator and assistant head coach.

“It’s special — he’s been been here 20-plus years through everything and he kinda grew up through the program,” Northwest Director of Athletics Andy Peterson said. “From a D-line coach to the D-coordinator to the head coach — just a a special dude who gave his all for the program. We are so thankful and appreciate him, Sarah and the girls, and their sacrifice for the betterment of the program.”

Wright was a member of the coaching staff for 21 seasons — coaching in eight national title games and helping the Bearcats win titles in 2009, 2013, 2015 and 2016. He was the winningest
active MIAA coach with a .747 winning percentage, which ranks ninth national among coaches who have coached for at least five seasons.

Defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Chad Bostwick has been named the interim coach while the search is conducted.

“He’s been around here a long time, so he knows the ins and the outs of how things work,” Peterson said.

                          • You know ... when you consider all the bold highlighted achievements, how many football programs would give "someone's" left arm (other than their own), to have that kind of record at their university? Wright will have no problem landing somewhere that will make him a pretty happy guy. Good luck, RW.

In a “best case” scenario (meaning prevents the above return scenario from happening), AD does hire RW at UCO, and then UCO goes D1 … both of them move up to D1 level with a program that moves into a different conference, and we don’t have to play them. Problem solved!

Of course, in that scenario, since AD doesn’t come back, again, who you got for replacing HC, and both coordinator slots?

The speculation is that they are already looking at several coaches who “are currently in the playoffs” as possible gets, but again, who would you try for?
