Should Jamestown be accepted into the NSIC?

Hockey is paramount at MSU so if sacrificing the other sports to protect it is part of the future - then that's fine. I'm not obligated to pay for tickets.

What I meant by "sacrifice" is allowing them to function in a Summit League capacity - basically playing meaningless exhibition games, and not cutting the sports entirely.

I was curious - so I looked, it looks like the only Final Four appearance a Summit League team made was in Men's Soccer in 2016 with Denver.

Starting in his sophomore year, Musland and the Jimmies will be playing at the NCAA Division II level. Musland is familiar with the teams that the Jimmies will be playing in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference thanks to being recruited by the Cobbers and watching his sister, Molly, play for the Cobbers for the last two years.

I'd sacrifice Hockey right now, if what remains of the Athletic Budget goes to the remaining programs and helps fund a new Football field.

If you're happy with your school being 3rd tier at best in Football, 2nd tier in all other sports by all means.
I'll take the jump to D1 all day every day, and forget all about Jamestown or Minot, or Upper Iowa

"Top tier" is FBS, P5, and Blue Blood basketball. MSU is not and will never be "top tier." Except in hockey - where they've been a consistent top ten team for the last 5-6 years.

MSU going D1 is one thing. Thinking they should drop the one sport they will ever be competitive in at the top level is beyond wild lol.

I really couldn't care less if they go D1 or not. I'm not required to watch that mess. But MSU Hockey is something I give a lot of attention, so I want that to stay.

I just realized that MSU Hockey has more top four finishes in D1 than every sport and every team in the Summit League combined lol. And it's real D1 - so NDSU and SDSU fighting over the poverty football trophy doesn't count (it's not a Summit sport anyway).

Wild we're talking about hypothetically throwing that away so the basketball team can play UMKC and SDSU 8 times a year lol.

At the end of the day, whether FCS or Division II, you're talking about "small college sports" in both the Summit/MVFC and the Northern Sun. There's not a significant difference. When that's the case, rivalries can have a significant impact on the bottom line. Most of Mankato's biggest historic rivals are at the FCS level, especially now that St Cloud dropped football.

Dropping hockey won't happen there though. But moving up might...

Absolutely. They would be among peer institutions - well with the Dakota schools anyway (if we overlook the R2 part). I do think playing SDSU would draw interest in basketball. Maybe NDSU.

It'll happen eventually. I know they aren't in a position now to do it, but it'll happen. I think we're only seeing the beginning of the shifts.
