I know WL holds tryouts that's how we got Lococo but I guess we were just really picky and don't want walk ons, I don't really get it but I've never seen a walk on here. Anyone know why, hopefully Ben will allow it

I have heard that the tryouts are beneficial to the recruit also. They need to understand what they are buying into in terms of effort and intensity. I have heard there have been times after a workout when prospective recruits and their parents have said "We really appreciate the offer, but we don't think this is a fit for us."

Do we know if Moore, Saben and Yokum, the three commits before Crutchfield left are still committed to WL?

I remember that he started the first game, which really surprised me. Even Seger did not start then. I could see Clay and Monte averaging 18-25 points per game this coming season. Was this being rumored before Crutch left? Or is it the possible aftermath?

                  Hearing he and Dennis both.

Wonder why they wouldn't follow Crutchfield if they're set on leaving WL.

Not that you "try harder" for Nick Smith now, but I think he becomes a much bigger get, since Clay left...
I was under the impression, mistaken obviously, that Clay would stay with Ben, but what can you do......

Dennis was set on leaving before Crutch left. He believes he is D1 caibre and is fishing for offers at that level. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up following Crutch to Nova if he doesn't get a D1 offer he likes. Gauz is a new rumored departure. Haven't heard anything about were he wants to go or why he's leaving. Wouldn't be surprised if he also ends up at Nova. I mean, if you are willing to gamble on being in a winning program and you want BIG minutes playing in a palace like setting, him going to Nova makes perfect sense. Lets just say the existing Nova roster is not filled with players that play Crutch's style of ball. I would guess that half of the roster might not be around for the start of next season. A WLU transfer who started for Crutch the previous year becomes an instant starter and team leader...playing and practicing in the $80M University Centers 4000 seat "Shark Tank"...Living in the new 2-4 bedroom apartments that Nova calls "dorms"...About 2 miles from the beach and right around the corner from Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

He11...I'm thinking of dusting off the Chuck Taylor All-Star's (High top...black, of course!) and seeing about walking on myself!!!!"

I'm frankly surprised more players aren't testing transfer with an eye toward following Crutch to Ft Lauderdale.

                        I wish David well.

If he were my son, I would tell him the following:

                        1. No one is going to care 5 yrs from now whether you played D1 or D2.

                        2. If you are going D1, get the most long-term financial benefit you can. Consider only prestigious academic schools like Princeton, harvard, Yale, etc. Ivy League, Rice, Vanderbilt, etc. That education costs $200K at least. The ivy league diploma is worth huge $. It is an automatic interview for any position. Don't get lured by the siren song of unscrupulous D1 coaches who feed you the NBA dream and will steer you to courses that are too easy just to keep your basketball practice schedule open. If no prestigious academic schools offer, choose a D2 school that has the same balance between academics and athletics that the Ivy League has.

                        3. Gently I would say: You have gotten 100% out of your natural ability thru incredible hard work, intelligence and determination. You will continue to improve. However, there are natural physical limits that will keep you out of the NBA that you cannot control. So do not set that as the primary goal, but consider it a windfall if it occurs. Consider Europe if you want to play after graduating from an ivy league college.

                        My 2 cents worth.

Dennis and Clay follow Crutchfield to Nova? Hasn't anyone been keeping up on their reading? Crutchfield is quoted as saying Dennis would be making a huge mistake leaving WL. Crutchfield encouraged all of the players to stay at WL. The only one I could see leaving would be Monteroso because he only has 1 year left, but do you want to have a chance to win the conference again or spend your last year in a rebuilding mission? My money is on he stays.
It is hilarious that everyone automatically assumes these transfers are headed to Nova. Last year when Dennis did the exact same thing, Crutchfield shook his hand and said good luck. Didn't bat an eye or beg him to stay. That tells me Crutch is not in a hurry to take him to Nova. Clay could be another story, but let's hope not.
Ben Howlett has been the main recruiter st WLU for at least the last 2 years if not 3. Let's try to keep up with the facts. Ben is the one traveling through Ohio to the state tourney and has been for years.
Of course, when you have friends on other sports teams and ex teammates still running around the ASRC, you get the insider trading information.
That's right Nut, not handing out towels like you posted.

By that logic, though, would it then say that all of Ben's recruits from the past several years are bailing on him?

Let's also keep in mind we're talking about D2 players here. It's not like it's North Carolina types. These guys, for the most part, are all pretty replaceable. Based on your Crutch comments toward Dennis ... it kind of proves it.

The assistants at most good programs do all the recruiting. The head honchos aren't spending their weekends watching tournament after tournament in Podunk, USA. They come in at the end to close the deal.
