The football side is a much different story.
    The football side is atrocious!
Basketball on the other hand, you know the crew and you know how the game will be called. Can't complain if the crew as a whole is consistent.

Wow, that's just horrible. I'e never seen any IUP fans complain about officiating on this site. ;-)

Nice win in a tough place to play. Very awkward gym.

I was able to go the game, I sadly missed the first few minutes thanks to the early start and having to travel from Maryland. Seemed liked every time Ship would make it close IUP would go on a run and make enough stops defensively to keep them at arms length. I think the start time impacted the crowd as there wasn't a whole lot of life besides some kids sitting up high and one person that would not shut up about the refs, at least on the side I was sitting. I did laugh and think about IUPNation when I saw the Dixon Trophy Banner hanging in the arena.

I'm sure he saw he could be the man quickly at Ship once the group from the 2022-2023 team graduated. Now they just have to bring in some additional height and scoring to complement him. Frank is one of those kids who has a knack for getting to the hoop that can't be coached. What impressed me Friday is that he seemed to be more under control than at the beginning of the year. While there was a little of what Al McGuire used to call "French pastry" on some of his shots, most of them were good shots and he wasn't trying to force things that weren't there. On one play where the IUP player had good defensive position, Frank subtly shifted the path of his drive instead of going directly at the kid and drew a blocking foul in the process. It's been fun to watch a kid with that type of interior game as it's become a lost art for many players.

Figueroa is a tough kid, but at 6-3 it's asking a lot of him to contend with guys such as Porterfield and Brooks. Covid and the strangely unbalanced roster we had last year have caught up with Ship. Crespo has been with the team since 2019, but is getting his first extensive game action this year, and there are a couple of more like him. It's going to take Fite a while to get the boat back on even keel. Obviously the most pleasant surprise has been the scoring ability of Markus Frank. I liked the way he attacked the hoop in high school, but didn't know if that would translate to the PSAC. It looks as if it will. The last time anyone scored 40 points for Ship was 28 years ago, and I doubt anyone else has done it in their fifth game playing for the Raiders.

Ship will have a hard time matching up with that type of player this season, and unfortunately he isn't the last of that type we'll see in the PSAC. Really missed the departed Carter, Johnson, and Sleva.

But, last night was the first real glimpse what he's capable of doing for this team. As you and I kept saying, he just gives them a presence down there the others do not. It's not 5 on 4 when he's in there. He's not going to launch treys but he can dunk from all over, grab tough boards and he's very difficult to move. He has to be accounted for on both ends.

I also like the move of elevating MacNamara. He's another big body and can spell EP for a run here and there.

This isn't the pile on KJ rant but Joe has to continue playing his best combination of players. KJ can have a very limited role but he can't play underneath for any extended period of time. Let Damir eat. They need him to go 25 mpg.

Petteno is another who I don't think they've found his role yet. He has upside but they need to get him in a comfortable spot.

Jaylen Stewart is the one, my opinion, who could explode. Joe needs to fully green light him. No more role player crap. Cut him loose.

I was at the game and know where IUP got their points. They missed a lot of 3s, but some of the ones they made were real daggers, like the one just before half. Ship basically lost the game in the first five minutes when they looked as if their feet were in cement. Also lost the turnover battle, which turned into a lot of easy buckets for IUP. When you're getting beat on the boards, which is going to happen to Ship at times this season, you cannot afford to turn the ball over. IUP's greater physicality and the game experience of players such as Porterfield, Dillard, and Clarke made a big difference.
