Well, actually SMSU is the newest....and I wouldn't call it old or dumpy.

Winona's stadium must have had significant upgrades over the years.

I've been trying to find pictures online of the old set up but haven't had any success. Home side was all bleacher seats and you entered under them on the 50 yard line, that's been closed off but you can still see the area that used to be entrance. Visitor side and end zones were filled with those tiny 3-4 row metal bleachers. Turf was added in 1999 and I believe that's when the visitor side was updated to the bleachers they have now. Press box and suites along with the student section bleachers all went up in the mid 2000's. The last update I know of was the scoreboards and video screen in 2019.

I thought I had already seen someone in the NSIC announce a nonconference game for 2025 and 2026 but I don't recall who that was now.
Back to North and South, but they will have an open week and week 0 like today. I assume they haven’t made an announcement because it’s still the 2024 season yet. There won’t be any carry-over of the scheduling from this year..it’ll be reset and new and a 2 year thing at a time, if my memory serves me right.

You are correct Mattke Field at the Schwan Regional Event Center is the crown jewel of the the MN D2 football programs! SMSU should change their motto to "We haven't won a lot of games lately but at least we play at a stadium with running water!!"

Yeah, it has. I heard some discussion several years ago that they wanted something different, but that obviously didn't go anywhere.

Ugh, my bad! Thanks for the correction.

Isn't much they can do until they get a new baseball field. With them being next to each other it limits options. At one point WSU planned on building a new baseball field at the tech school and I also heard rumors they looked at building one by the softball field near the lake. This was back in 2015 or 2016 so clearly that fell through too.

Now that you mention it - I think I heard some discussion about that too. Kinda hope they can put something new together but I can see space being an issue.

There are a couple renderings out there.

No problem! It has happened before where people have just seen the "Mattke Field" name and think we've played on the same field since the 1970s, or they simply looked at Wikipedia which is very wrong.

That explains the goof in this video - showed an arial of old Mattke and then showed the new one.

                        • As with most of my posts…not much of anything important. But, since I’m fully embracing my middle-agedness, I’m watching Aerial America on Smithsonian Channel (oh yeah) and they do one on each state.
                          Current episode: The Dakotas 🤣

It’s my early weekend morning viewing generally. Ha. My daughter calls it the show that shows the states from the air. And I thought kids shortened everything…

I feel like they tried to jam too much into “The Dakotas” episode. Definitely should have been separate. Like the states.

Hey now that's a great show - aside from the fact that they're lumping Superior Dakota in with Lesser Dakota.

Loved the one they did on Nevada.
