After the bank robbers or funky music group?
Isn't Jimmies a derivatives of MIAC naming system.
Very much an MIAC name- Johnnies, Tommies, Oles, Gusties, Carlton used to go by the Carls.

Before the name Cobber stuck, however, Concordia athletic teams tried out many names. Early teams were called Lutefiskers, Corncobbers, Corncobs, Concordians, Lutherans and Vikings.
MIAC has the Bennies too and St. Catherine is the Wildcats, which sorta works

I went to a NCAA basketball playoff there decades ago to watch a gal who I had coached against when she was in HS. She gave me a Blazers cap- I didn't know that they had officially changed it but everyone called them Bennies anyway. The last St John's football game that I was at last year the coeds all seemed to be wearing Bennies apparel.Originally posted by WSUWarriorFan View PostFor a while the actual nickname for St. Bens athletics was the Blazers but nobody called them that. Not sure what year they official changed it to the Bennies. But a fun fact for you all.

Just found it on Wikipedia. In 2019 the athletic teams at CSB were officially rebranded from the "Blazers" to the "Bennies". I sure missed the announcement at the time. Just like Bennie and the Jets.Originally posted by WSUWarriorFan View PostFor a while the actual nickname for St. Bens athletics was the Blazers but nobody called them that.
