BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Valdosta State was chosen to finish atop the standings at the end of the season, according to the 2024 Gulf South Conference Football Preseason Poll, as voted by the league’s head coaches.
The Blazers topped the poll with five first-place votes as they collected 46 total points, after winning a share of GSC title and advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Football Championship.
West Florida was tabbed second as it received 42 total points and one first-place vote. Delta State narrowly followed in third with 41 points and two first-place votes after winning its second consecutive GSC title.
The rest of the poll saw West Alabama at fourth (30 points), followed by North Greenville (24 points), Mississippi College (21 points). Chowan and Erskine were rounded out the poll tied for seventh (10 points). Points were awards on a 7-6-5-4-3-2-1 scale and schools were unable to vote for itself.
