Games for Saturday, October 23rdAugustana (6-1) at Minnesota State-Mankato (5-2)MSU had a cake walk in Fayette, trouncing the Peacocks 58-0 in a game in which the outward appearance was that the Mavs were trying to re-establish a passing game that looked dicey in losses to Duluth and Wayne. JD Ekowa might’ve had his best day statistically as a Maverick, completing 16 of 20 for 286 yards and 4 scores, while punching in on the ground as well.

State of the NSICI’ve stated this before, but after 6 weeks of play it looks like the NSIC isn’t likely to produce a top playoff seed or host many playoff games as the league is seemingly cannibalizing itself. The Northern Sun has some very good teams, but I don’t see a fire-breathing dragon like Mankato in recent years.

Week 5 GamesAfter a month of games, it’s become apparent the race for the top spot in the NSIC is more wide-open than it’s been in the past. Augustana is the lone unbeaten after four weeks and two teams with new head coaches (Wayne State and Northern State) find themselves in the hunt after huge wins over perennial powers.
