Before we get into this week’s action across the SAC, it’s important to take a moment to remember two members of the D2Football family we lost this past week. Our thoughts, prayers, and love are with the families, friends, teammates, and coaches of Southeastern Oklahoma State defensive end Dylan Sebock, who was killed in a crash last week, and Southern Nazarene football player Tyler Ulrich, who tragically passed away after suffering an injury during the Crimson Storm’s game last weekend.

October is usually when the picture starts to come into focus in the D2 football landscape. Like the leaves here in the Smokey mountains every fall, the pretenders begin to fall from the proverbial tree while the contending teams look to hang on just a bit longer.

Five weeks into the season, the South Atlantic Conference is starting to separate a little, but there is still a long way to go. And I feel like I still don’t know squat!

The first full month of the 2026 season is almost in the books, and the South Atlantic Conference is beginning to provide some answers — while creating plenty of new questions.

Week 1 brought a much different look to the SAC than Week 0, and several teams gave us plenty to think about heading into the second full weekend of the season. Carson-Newman followed its thrilling Week 0 win over Tiffin with a much more comfortable 44-0 shutout of Thomas, while Newberry looked every bit like a team capable of making another deep run, rolling past Reinhardt 38-3.

There’s a different feel around the South Atlantic Conference heading into 2026: A new conference commissioner (shoutout Lindsey Babcock and welcome to the party), a new era of postseason selection with the NPI, plenty of coaching and roster movement, and a schedule loaded with intriguing matchups make this one of the most difficult seasons to predict in recent memory.

We are barely over a week from the kickoff of the 2026 SAC football season, and I for one am ready. If there is one thing we can count on entering another South Atlantic Conference football season, it is that things will change.

Rivalry week is here, as is the last week of the 2025 regular season. The end of the season is like opening your next to last Christmas present:

Hard to believe it, but there are just two weeks left in the 2025 SAC regular season. This year has been one of the top to bottom most competitive I can remember in 18 years of following the league, with eight programs winning at least three conference games and four recently listed in the NCAA’s regional rankings.

Happy Halloween to all who partake! Should be a scary lineup this weekend with LOADS on the line in the SAC.

The last weekend of September, and the SAC schedule takes a slight detour back into non-conference play for a few schools. D3 power Mary Hardin-Baylor heads to The Hill to take on Coach Barnette and the Mars Hill Lions.

SAC Week 1 PreviewThere was some excellent football last weekend, and some games.....maybe not so much. Should be some really good games this week, as a couple of schools dive into conference play already.
