Ryan Gladwin earned a degree from Carson-Newman University in 2011. Currently employed in the collegiate retail business, Ryan lives in Tennessee with his wife and two kids.

Last weekend was one of the best opening rounds of D2 football playoff action I’ve seen since my freshman year at Carson-Newman in 2007. As I shared on social media, the average margin of victory was just 8.8 points (would’ve been 5.5 if you took out the beatdown Harding laid on Pittsburg State).

We are just days away from the first regional ranking release of the 2024 D2 season and that is both wonderful and sad all at the same time. It means we are that close to playoff football…it also means we are that close to the season being over already.

SAC Week 6 saw a lot of heart pumping action, as four of the six games were decided by one score. I expect some very good matchups this week as well, as we inch closer and closer to playoff time.

Hard to believe we are already at the halfway point of the season and are already talking about playoffs. It’s the beginning of divisional play in the SAC this weekend, which means the rivalries heat up and the games get even more intense and crucial.

We are already in week five of the 2024 season, nearing the halfway mark. There were a couple of scheduling changes made this week, and I imagine there will be some more down the line as many areas within the league were terribly affected by hurricane Helene.

Week three and opening weekend in the SAC brought some outstanding football and gives week four something to live up to. More important than football, as week four gets ready to kick off, is the severe weather hitting the southeastern US right now from Hurricane Helene.

The non-conference part of the schedule is now over, and we finally get into cross-divisional play in the SAC. I’m excited for some old SAC rivalries being renewed for the first time since 2021 this week, such as two of the founding members of the conference in Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill.

Everybody has a game under their belts now, but we still don't know much about some of the SAC schools here in 2024. It's also nearly impossible to know how good a team is going to be two weeks into the season....well....unless you've watched defending national champion Harding already.

Opening weekend gave us some fireworks in the SAC, but unfortunately three of the four games were blowouts. Delta State led 10-7 at half before the Statesmen exploded in the 2nd half, winning by 31 at Mars Hill.

Week 0 is here and while there are just four games on the South Atlantic Conference slate this week heading into Labor Day weekend, all four have potential to be excellent appetizers for the weeks ahead. Three of the four matchups are first ever meetings, while one is an in-state rivalry between teams looking to make a big leap in 2024.
