Vidan Dronjak was among 17 players invited to try out for Serbian National U20 team for Euro Championships starting July 8. Good luck Vidan!
    ‐---------

This did not go unnoticed by Čanko and the people from the Basketball Association of Serbia, who invited him to a gathering among 17 players.
Apart from Bošković, Canak is counting on these basketball players: Stefan Stefanović (Dinamik), Mihailo Petrović (Borac Čačak), Nikola Saranović (FMP), Čedomir Matić (Sloboda), Nikola Petojević (Dinamik), Marko Vukčević (OKK Belgrade) Danilo Labović (OKK Belgrade), Matija Vučić (Radnički 1950), Filip Stanojević (Vojvodina), Nikola Radovanović (Mladost Zemun), Stefan Dabović (Radnički KG), Filip Branković (Limburg, The Netherlands), Luka Paunov (Gran Canaria, Spain), Matija Belić ( USA), Bogdan Zimonjić (USA) and Vidan Dronjak (USA).

You're assuming the only reason Canady came to WLU is because Robinson left. I think that even if he stayed, Canady would have come to WLU. Particularly given that he wanted to come when he transfered from Wheeling but wasn't permitted to by the Wheeling coaching staff. More likely that Sampson would not have been signed if Robinson had stayed.

That would have given us a notional first five of:

      Butler
      Yoakum
      Robinson
      Canady
And either McKinney, Montague or Sarson

      AND a second five of:

The two non first five from above
      Risile
      West
      Hinds

      AND a situational bench of:

      Woodward
      Spadfora

THAT would have been hard for any team to beat.

Drojak was part of Serbia's U18 team so I would imagine he has a pretty good shot at being on their U20 team.

Can't really comment as you obviously have more information about scholarship allocations than I.

Notionally, the top 5 get 100% (=5 equivalents), second 5 get 75% (=3.75 equivalents), next 2 get 50% (=1 equivalent). That would leave a 25% scholly laying around to either distribute evenly or to "bump up" a worthy player (say someone in the "second 5" tier to top 5 money).

I had never seen the word "notionally" before. Had to look up definition. Always like learning new words. thanks!

                From Vocabulary.com:

Notion - A notion is lighter than a theory and embraces a whimsy that a simple idea never could.

Seeing as how we are in June and talking about scholarship allocation for a basketball team that didn't materialize (Yokum and Robinson did in fact transfer), a touch of light whimsy was OK.

                • Now that the dust has settled on recruiting, who do u think will be in starting platoon?
or will it change depending on the opponent?

Way too early, so it is just a guess.

Have not seen so much roster-wide high level competition in quite a while. Here are some wild guesses.

                  1. Montague - 43+ 3%. offense will run thru him. Excellent judgment, sees whole court. Shutdown defender.
                  2. Sarson - 40 3%. if he plays cooly and pragmatically and develops back to basket game like bonifant, bolon and butler, look out. Every big should study Butler's footwork.
                  3. Fergus - McKinney replacement and all region. Assumes he can adjust quickly and realize 1 on 1 is not required here to score. System will raise 3 pt %
                  4. Korte - all mec. Will cover some of gap left by butler. High bball iq. Could be pushed due to development of returning bigs. Needs to develop consistent three pt shot. System will raise 3 pt %

                  5th man was tough
5a. West - Great passer. Cerebral. Needs to improve 3 pt shot and move feet on defense to avoid fouls. Good size.
5b.Rasile - 45 3%. might start depending on matchup. Solid defender, great passer. 45% from three. Great range. Understands the game.
5c. Spadafora - 10,000 rpm motor without committing turnovers, creates chaos and forces steals. 3 pt shot improving. Unselfish. Will get a lot of minutes even if 2nd platoon.

                  • Ben doesn't change the First 5 very often unless forced to by injury or some other calamitous situation. Good chance the first 5 on the court for game one will be the same 5 as the last game of the season. Now he will "adjust" minutes based on individual performance and in-game situations. With WLU going so deep into it's lineup, perhaps a better way of frazing it would be who are the top 5 minute getters?

Only 2 starters left from last year - montague and Sarson. So 3 spots will be different from last game of season. These high level transfers and the hs signees will make pre season interesting. I got the impression west and rasile were used often on non platoon sub patterns.

                        Ben might be in Morgantown.

There is a lot of buzz that former Fairmont State and current Youngstown State head coach Jerrod Calhoun could get the WVU job.

This will be interesting. It's not easy to lure big coaching names near the end of June.

                        • West Liberty fans would fret over the clearly superior talent at Fairmont when Calhoun was there, but took comfort in the fact that one could always count on 5 to 10 knucklehead possessions per game by fairmont. They were often proven correct. He finally won mec in 2016 -2017 beating West lib by 2, after splitting close games with West lib in regular season. They then went to finals, losing to Ben McCollum and nwmsu by 10. Calhoun then got out of dodge and away from crutchfield on the heels of a 34-3 record for youngstown state.

My concern is that he allowed selfish knucklehead shots. That will cost you games in b12.

I’m guessing they play it safe and go with Andy Kennedy. Calhoun’s time will come, he’s winning at a place no one wins, but he probably needs the shine of making the Dance to land a job that big.
