    Exciting? No.
    Proven P4 guy? Kinda.
The players and fans are really behind Smith. They need continuity through this. I think he has a good shot at it. Especially if he wants it. IUP24 is right. Smith doesn't have to be a long time hire. I think that works. They've already lost virtually their entire recruiting class. During the Nebraska game the announcer said they have lost 17 from the class.

And I think all if not nearly all of those from PA.

A former neighbor played at Penn State in the 70s and is in the Letterman's Club. I see online that he's pulling hard for Terry Smith.

I had to look up what the 409 is. I don’t know if that type of thing hurts or helps his cause. I see that they expect to make a hiring announcement by Tuesday so I guess we’ll all find out soon enough.

I see Miami gets to play at Pitt in low 30’s temperatures. If Pitt can get a lead you’d have to imagine the Hurricanes will start feeling the cold. Should be an interesting game.

At Penn State, that helps quite a bit. It makes the brass wince but the alumni trustees and shadow boosters hearts flutter. Alumni trustees include Brandon Short, Matt McGloin, and yes, Jay Paterno. Sometimes I wonder where our schools would be if the state allowed us to have alumni elected trustees.

My top 3 are Chesney, Rhule, and Smith.

I'll be at Pitt-Miami with my kid. Anyone who will be there shoot me a PM.

Rhule signed an extension with Nebraska, right? I think they dodged a bullet there. Doubt he would have been an improvement over Franklin.

I think Rhule still comes if the money is right - and many will excuse it because he's returning to his alma mater.

Honestly, I don't know how much better they're going to get from Franklin. Doesn't excuse the record this year and in past "big games" but this impulsive decision is going to do more short and long term harm to Penn State football than Franklin has done. The players love him and many will leave at season's end regardless of who they hire.

                • Penn State won’t be hiring Vanderbilt’s coach again as Clark Lea has signed a 6 year extension.

                      Their lines both suck.

It won't seem to matter anyway as the ACC title game will likely be Virginia vs SMU, barring any crazy upsets by Virginia Tech or California (comma) Berkeley. Pitt needed to beat Miami (which would've been a tough task to begin with) and get a lot of help to punch their ticket to Charlotte.

8-4 was a good year for this team. They were very flawed and their best offensive player spent more time out of the lineup than in it. Putting together last week’s performance so that today’s game had some stakes was nice, but clearly they’re nowhere near the level of Notre Dame, Miami and teams of that caliber. With the exception of WVU they took care of the teams you’d think they should beat.

Heintschel being the real deal would be a real nice place to start for next year, but I have to admit I’m not convinced. Hopefully he makes me look like a fool.

Narduzzi calling a defensive timeout while getting blown out with 50 seconds left worked out well.

Miami said if you do that crap we'll score again. And, they did.

                            Perfect cap to the performance.

I think so, too. Pitt fans should be happy with 8-4. That's a good year for most teams. If their expectation is 7-8 wins I think that's pretty good. Some years they'll hit 9 wins, others they'll have issues and have 5-6. And because its Pitt, they'll continue to feed guys into the NFL in spite of their overall lack of success.

I was there today with my son. We left at halftime because it was unbearably cold (and the overabundance of Miami fans were starting to get to us). The highlight was being 20 yards from Jayson Taylor and telling my son about him. Pitt's offensive line play was terrible. They struggled to run the ball for this reason and Heintschel was taken down far too many times. The defensive line wasn't much better. Miami's lines were noticeably bigger and stronger.
