Primetime just landed the No. 1 ranked recruit in America to Jackson State.

It should be interesting to see how much national attention comes to Deion and Jackson State. For those who don't know, the FCS HBCU schools don't participate in the playoff. They do bowl games. I feel like that limits his profile a bit, although maybe not much.

FCS probably hasn't had this much coverage since Steve McNair and Alcorn State.

Something similar happened last year in basketball. The top recruit signed with Howard. Some thought it could start a frenzy of the top basketball players (which, many are African American) to start signing with the D1 HBCU's rather than the Duke's of the world.

Not a fan of the hire:

*Drayton has never been a head coach or even a coordinator despite coaching for almost 30 years.

*Drayton hasn't coached in Temple's primary recruiting area since the late 1990s. (He spent one year at Penn in 1995 and four years at Villanova from 1996-1999.)

*Drayton is not a native of Temple's primary recruiting area. (He from the Cleveland area.)

For a school like Temple, you need someone who really knows Temple's recruiting area and isn't coming in cold.

Smart move by the Duzz because Slovis brings in the extensive P5 game day experience that the other QBs on Pitt's roster lack. Hopefully he will perform to the potential that he showed earlier in his college career. What does Patti do? Stay with Pitt, get a masters degree, and be a reliable and trusted backup? Absolutely nothing wrong with that scenario. Or, does he want to play and be the number one somewhere? JMU? IUP? He does have some - albeit a smallish resume - of P5 game day experience. But man, that amenity step down from a $25M ish program to a $2M is program is huge.

Pitt beat out Notre Dame (among many others) to land Slovis. He said getting to play with Jordan Addison for a year (reigning Biletnikoff winner and consensus All-American) sealed the deal. Also huge for Pitt is he has two years' eligibility.

Patti should probably move on -- if he wants to play. Pitt also has former Arizona State QB Joey Yellen in the program. He actually went head-to-head against Slovis a couple years ago in a Pac 10 game.
