You all always say UCO has the money so maybe we can pony up and pay him to stay.

Maybe his family likes living in Edmond over middle of nowhere Missouri? That could help too.

One last thing. Do NW fans think the only coaches that exist on Earth are AD and RW? Seems like they know no other options.
I don't see AD leaving UCO to return to Northwest. He's already won national championships at NW, so he's got nothing left to prove in Maryville. I'm sure he wants to build his own program and make his next mark somewhere besides Northwest.

Programs with long term success become insular. Their fans know that what built the program worked really well for a really long time. They start to believe that's the only thing that can work. The fans and donors start to demand that the next guy have ties back to the school and the coaching tree.

The reality is that cultures erode, and too much of a good thing tends to also magnify the negatives within the program. Those negatives often start out as small non-issues, and become big glaring holes.

Sometimes you have to.flush andnreset to.catch back up.with the times, but a lot of local folks, fans, alumni, etc. will never believe that, and will be.mad for 20 years afterward.

      • rw was a great hire on paper. it just hasn't worked out. peter principle et al.
bringing ad back would be a no brainer due to his pedigree, not b/c he coached here once. or to say it differently, if the school could hire any 3 time nc winner who's under the age of 70 it'd be an easy decision.

the real issue is the fact that it'd be a lateral move (there's nothing he can't do in edmond that he could do again in maryville) & no reason to believe he'd come back. it's nothing personal i'm sure since jj's long gone, there's just no reason to do it, esp when considering he appears to have it up & running down there. if/when he leaves co (on his own) it'll be b/c he's onto something bigger/better. that's not another d2. i've seen his salary online, i would imagine they'll bump him after this season.

the nwms fan base isn't insular. it just doesn't know what's out there so it talks about what it knows. i firmly believe our next hc is someone i've never heard of rn win lose or draw.....assuming the search is done right, which is quite the assumption considering our current athl dir.

I've talked to some. he's pretty satisfied where he is. built his own team and is building a legacy right now. you think if he could have taken any of the NW champ teams to D1 and won and kept winning he would ever leave Missou? I don't think he would have. now that he's been out of the fog of Maryville a while, I think his priorities have changed. he decided to hand the keys to his championship team over after a dust up with NW leadership (or whatever happened) and tried to go out and build a new brand for himself. after a few years, the ACU leadership didn't think he could do it and let him go.

now, whether it's because he hates your president and wants to prove to him that he should have listened to him... prove it to everyone else and himself he can replicate his NWMS success... or any other plethora of reasons.
He's now doing it his way and building his own team from scratch. with his own two hands. he's not just "watering the plants" anymore. he's digging the holes and planting the crops, watering it and weeding it. now he's waiting for the harvest after 2 seasons of hard work.

now, with all that being said, there is a LOT of effort from the school being put into this team since he got here. news channels are finally covering the team after being away for a decade or more. a lot of emphasis is being put on student attendance and being loud and proud in the stadium. money is being spent. social media presence is being hammered at every turn. i have no real clear vision or knowledge but i do have eyes and ears.
if he manages to turn this team into a NC and can continue that success, will the school (or can) they make that speculated jump to D1? with his team. the team he built.
He can prove to NW AND ACU leadership they were both wrong in one fell swoop.

laugh if you will but, ask yourself this. (i know the answer. you guys have mentioned AND discussed it many times on this very forum) could those back-to-back NW teams won on the D1 level?

will he leave UCO? nothing is absolute but i think he has bigger plans and opportunities like he's in now don't happen often at all.

There is new leadership at NW. AD's arch enemy (JAZ) is gone. If you think for a moment that AD wouldn't bolt for a better opportunity at the next level. You are sadly mistaken. AD had the right parts to make the NW engine run like a Daytona 500 champion. ACU was a stepping stone for him that crumbled. They built a brand new stadium and pumped tons of money into the football program. Unfortunately AD didn't have all the correct parts to make that engine run. Looks as though he may at UCO, but then again. You can waive a shiny nickel in front of almost any DII HC and they will chase it up the NCAA hill.
As for RW. The new El Presidente is a avid athletics fan and word on the street is that RW wanted a contract extension, but he said he has to prove he can take a team back to the NC. Well we see how that is working out so far. RW may be requisitioning a moving company here in about 5 weeks or so, unless that panty wad Athletic director we have finally gets a pair.

So there’s a situation for you: what if Tatum wants RW gone at the end of the year but AP (who has demonstrated in previous years that he won’t make the hard call) won’t fire him? Will Tatum have to clean house in the department?

            • I can't imagine AD moving laterally within D2. If he keeps it up in Edmond, which it appears he may, his phone will be ringing from larger television venues. If UCO wants to keep AD, UCO is going to have to put up a plan for FCS movement. Think about it. If you were AD, would you move laterally?

He could and he could let AP go as well if he doesn't follow the commander in chief of NW

ACU has issues.....especially in the recruiting department. Dude that replaced him doesn't have a stellar record there...

Well. Met T cleaned house when he got to NW. I am along the same lines. Besides there is really no one there that is even close to being an Interim HC or candidate.

It's just too bad that Wren Baker didn't last long at NW. I am sure, given some time, he would have crapp canned RW, Darin Loe etc.

So here’s a possibility: do with AD what they did with Mel and bring AD back as the athletic director?

From what I've heard about the new President, I don't think he'd have an issue making that change...AP wasn't his hire and has done some things to show he isn't really cut out for the AD job.
