That's not going to happen. Dr. Jazz and a few other things has him sour with NW.

I wasn’t saying AD didn’t win at ACU because he couldn’t. I’m just saying I think that was the narrative.

PM'd you my address. Let me know when you are coming over to clean. I'll have all the supplies on the counter and will be at the bar.

But Dr. J is gone. And maybe a word from Mel could help patch things up?

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Mel just diagnosed with leukemia? Why does anyone think he wants to spend his time righting the ship at NWMSU while he is going through this?

Yes he was. But I also think Mel is the only person who could get AD to want to come back. All he has to do is a brief chat.

I doubt any of that is on Mel's radar right now. He's saved the program once before, I doubt he wants to do it again while going through chemo. I think you're also looking in the wrong places for the next head coach if your solution is a current head coach making a lateral move.

                • Upon Mel's retirement from Football, he moved to Texas and then came back to be the A.D. He is officially retired once again and battling some health issues. Coach Dorrel is a big boy and can certainly make his life decisions and if I was a betting man, he won't even be considering moving back to the Ville. His agenda is moving back up the food chain ladder. Northwest just needs to do a National search for a new HC, OC, DC etc. It worked pretty well for Pitt. Like I said there is really no-one in the ranks now at NW that is HC material. Bearcat06 is probably the closest person to AD and would know more than any poster on here.

I can promise with 98% certainty this conversation will never happen.

Ok, well, let’s change the direction of the discussion then: you’re in the NW athletic director’s seat: who would YOU try to go after as a new HC?

I think you find success from a number of places. There are plenty of FCS coordinators or D3/D2/NAIA coordinators or HC that could come in and have success that would absolutely be interested in taking the job at a successful program with history and the budget to compete. I don't think you need to find a NWMSU "lifer" or even necessarily want to. But a hungry coach looking to advance their career, that has a wide recruiting net and coaching connections would probably benefit NWMSU.

Brian Wright brought Pitt back to relevance and he had never set foot in Pittsburg before. He has coaching connections and recruited the US, but there were a ton of athletes on the roster from the previous staff that were and are currently core players. He had never been HC before, except for an interim stint at D1 FAU, and he was the OC at toledo before taking the Pitt job.

                            • With all the success that AD had while he was the head coach at Northwest, did he get any other D1 offers besides ACU?

There are unlimited prospects in the coaching ranks. From successful high school programs to coordinators in naia, juco, d3 and also d2.

Don't let a freaking pencil pusher choose or even have a say so for that matter. Just my thought. Those who know football make the choices.
