Yes he was. But I also think Mel is the only person who could get AD to want to come back. All he has to do is a brief chat.

Upon Mel's retirement from Football, he moved to Texas and then came back to be the A.D. He is officially retired once again and battling some health issues. Coach Dorrel is a big boy and can certainly make his life decisions and if I was a betting man, he won't even be considering moving back to the Ville. His agenda is moving back up the food chain ladder. Northwest just needs to do a National search for a new HC, OC, DC etc. It worked pretty well for Pitt. Like I said there is really no-one in the ranks now at NW that is HC material. Bearcat06 is probably the closest person to AD and would know more than any poster on here.

Ok, well, let’s change the direction of the discussion then: you’re in the NW athletic director’s seat: who would YOU try to go after as a new HC?

There are plenty of FCS/FBS coordinators or D3/D2/NAIA coordinators or HC that could come in and have success that would absolutely be interested in taking the job at a successful program with history and the budget to compete. I don't think you need to find a NWMSU "lifer" or even necessarily want to. But a hungry coach looking to advance their career, that has a wide recruiting net and coaching connections would probably benefit NWMSU.

Don't let a freaking pencil pusher choose or even have a say so for that matter. Just my thought. Those who know football make the choices.
