Personally, Jamestown isn't the worst option. In fact, I'd rather have them over Crookston just for the simple fact that I do believe they seem to at least make the bare minimum effort. That being said, they aren't the best option either. The best option right now would be to just not fill the position and see how things shake out in 3-5 years - however the conference doesn't want to go that route. Meaning - I'm not personally thrilled about Jamestown joining, but given that not expanding wasn't going to be an option, I'd much rather have them than Oak Hills Christian or Morris.

I'd go as far as to say that not only is MSU too good for Crookston, but I think the NSIC as a whole is too good for Crookston. I know there are individual athletes and coaches behind that name that are really doing the best they can with what they have, but I'm ready to let the whole program go. They add absolutely nothing - even Minot/Mary/SMSU add something, even if it's only some nice facilities, a decent volleyball team, or some micron of hope for their athletic futures. Crookston has nothing at this time.
I didn’t expect to see Oak Hills in this thread, well done! Morris moving down made sense. I don’t understand why a school, from the same system, as poor as Crookston, wouldn’t do the same. Seems odd to me. I don’t see the benefit, for them, in staying D2/NSIC

My gift to the world is knowing where all the tiny schools are that nobody has ever heard of. Clarkson College in Omaha? I got it covered. That's a school in a school!

I'm guessing the administration is stubborn. Having dealt with university higher-ups, they tend to want to be seen as prestigious so bad that they'll even make up phony metrics to blast out to the populace. So admitting that they failed at DII in the worst possible way and moving down to a "less" prestigious division probably isn't in their lexicon. It's absolutely what they should do, but in higher ed - "should do" and "want too" are usually polar opposites.

That, or the administration genuinely doesn't know they have sports. Which... I mean, is a possibility given how things have gone.

I actually know a couple of Oak Hills graduates…I might even have a sweatshirt? (Haven’t seen it in a bit)

That's even more impressive than that one time I saw the campus with my own two eyes - I've always wanted to ask a graduate of a place like that why they chose that school, what they thought of it while attending there, and what they did with that education afterward. Purely out of curiosity.

Man, I went to Bemidji State and I can't ever recall seeing the Oak Hills Campus... LOL!

It's like a unicorn - only a few select people have seen it! Haha

I think I was up there once and we knew there was another college nearby so we checked it out for a bit. Very, very tiny - almost had a summer camp vibe to it.

There's not much to see...two dorm buildings, only 2 or maybe 3 levels? Very small. Very intimate. Cool spot on Lake Marquette. Not much to drive through. Seems like it does a good job for what it's purpose and mission is

                • Northern men's basketball will host Dickinson, Dakota State and play a home and away with Jamestown this year. If they win any games, I pray it's these four.

A home and home with Jamestown? Seems weird that they scheduled 2 non-cons against the same team

Not really, especially considering they will be conference opponents next season and playing each other twice.

SMSU and Mankato played twice in 2005-06, though one was a neutral site game in Aberdeen. SMSU and NDSU played twice in 2004-05, as well.

Not the way this program has gone...

I think this maybe helps prove it’s rare/weird? :) Two examples in 20 years. I know it’s happened more than that, but it is very strange. Also, those were same division/association opponents. Playing an NAIA team twice is different.

MSU and Winona played back to back non-con games during Winona’s hey days.

Maybe you hadn't heard, but Jamestown is joining the NSIC next year...

Maybe I misread, I was under the impression Northern was playing them twice this year. Still NAIA this year. Do the games count for regionals since they are joining next year? Otherwise, next year doesn’t matter much.

Don't worry, this season doesn't matter much for Northern, so it balances out...
