I wonder if any schools other than Wayne (allegedly) in the NSIC have been approached with this prospect?

Rumors WT and Midwestern to the MIAA in 2025, plus a few GAC schools. Any truth or just hogwash?
Thought I had warned y'all against the shenanigans that occur on the LSC Forum.

It was from a non-LSC poster…That’s why I gave it any thought! :) Especially with other conference movement going on. Now Pops has spoken, so the word is final. Ain’t happening. Haha

        • This idea (MIAA expansion) is old news..FWIW.

Racy had said they were looking for expansion and while I don't have the interview infront of me and such from him..I walked away thinking a bit North and South both..WT and MW State came into my mind right then..at the time..and maybe even an Angelo..as the type of programs the MIAA would want..Wayne to the North. I don't think as far away as the RMAC with CSUP and Mines..but I wouldn't rule out the idea either..maybe Harding/HSU and such to the east..depending on their vision. I expect some MIAA expansion becoming a thing within 12-18..but maybe that's me reading too much into it. I didn't feel like this meant them trying to get into the Dakotas..that becomes all the further North/cold etc.

I remember something about USF and Wayne, but I am almost 100% positive it was just messageboard posting, not something that was in an article or anything like that.

The more I look at it, Midwestern and Wayne are not that much of an expansion for them. I can see how the rumors/thoughts get started. I think that WT in Canyon is quite the outlier though especially in sports other than football. Lots of travel from Canyon Texas to Wayne America or even to Jefferson City Missouri.

Witt, based upon the interview you mentioned, did you get the feeling that it was a major expansion or just a test the waters and take 1-2 teams kind of expansion?

I got the impression at least a few teams..not merely one.

I'm not sure I follow this line of thinking..meaning they aren't good in other sports or ?

                • DSU Athletics taking in yet another large, multi-million dollar donation. This one will go towards an indoor practice facility.

                  T. Denny Sanford gifts DSU $7M for indoor practice facility (dakotanewsnow.com)

They also received another $10 million on the academic side of things, for their center in Sioux Falls.

Yeah, reading that again, it was not clear. Geographically speaking it is a huge outlier. I separated football out because the number of games is fewer than most other sports. You have more people to transport, but fewer times to do it. Football is typically on weekends, whereas other sports do have some games during the week. Athletes miss less class time in football typically and with the much farther travel, that seems to me to equate to even more classes missed by non-football athletes.

I meant absolutely no disrespect to WT's other sports. They are incredible as an athletic department as a whole, and typically in the running for a national championship in at least one sport every year.

This is who we should be looking at, if anyone locally,

                        I agree.

Their dedication to their facilities plan is second-to-none right now. I've been following it over the last several years and their fundraising efforts are impressive. This is not the first multi-million dollar donation they've received.

They aren't competitive current state by NAIA standards and new facilities may not improve that much, but IMO, I think it's a better gamble than Jamestown long term.

Their push into Sioux Falls also fascinates me. If successful, it will increase the awareness of the school regionally and potentially nationally. Bigger enrollment and more alumni could change things for them in the next 20 years.

DSU also seems to have a core of really dedicated and successful alumni. Most schools do, but based on donation amounts - oofta, they did something right in Madison. Sanford went to the U of M but there are others it seems.

At least they're competitive inside their own conference in more than one sport.
Came in 2nd last year in the NSAA all sports, and won it in 2021-22
