I for one like what UJ is doing there, and think with the right coach and AD, that football team could become respectable again. Are those pieces there?? the facilities certainly seem to be. I do think with the right coach there, they can put a steal some recruits from Moorhead and Northern, and build a respectable program, and I know the community will support that team if they make the jump.
Recruiting will be interesting with Minot, Mary, Moorhead, Jamestown, and Northern all near each other and historically not near the top of the conference. Does Jamestown joining the conference make it tougher for these teams to climb up and consistently compete? Assuming they are all competing for the same kids that didn't get offered by the Dakota FCS schools.

    • We had a local athlete recently commit to another sport at UJ, I'm hoping to run into them or their family, to ask about if they were told or promised the NSIC thing was happening

I have done done some deep diving into this, and I think it will really affect Mary the most for now.

Current North Dakota kids on each program's roster:
          Minot - 5
          Mary - 18
          MSUM - 29

Just doing some quick Twitter searches, I don't think more than a few kids on Mary's roster (who actively tweeted out offers received) had an MSUM offer. Whereas a majority of MSUM's kids also received an offer from Mary.

I am obviously a bit biases, but I don't think it is a stretch for me to say that the bulk of the top D2 recruits in North Dakota end up at MSUM. Not to say that some don't go elsewhere in conference & that the division between Mary & MSUM could lessen if Mary keeps progressing and advancing their facilities way beyond what Moorhead has to offer. But to my point, once Jamestown moves into the NSIC and are in the recruiting mix for those 2nd tier Division 2 players in the state, I think they will be looking to steal some kids that would otherwise end up at Mary.

Disregard all of this. Jamestown stays put I guess.

            • I don't think rejoining the NSAA necessarily means Jamestown is staying in the NAIA. It makes complete sense as a one-year stopgap given the situations of both Jamestown and the NSAA.

Correct, everything in that press release screams one-year plan. Jamestown always needed a 2024-25 home.

Now who does the NSIC want as a prom date? Dakota State enters the picture.

                  • Instead of Jamestown, I think we should look to add strength to the conference. To me, that comes from an existing D2 member(s). I say look at this map, find someone that makes sense and convince them to move. I see 2 teams in SD already isolated, 2 teams in Washington and Oregon that are isolated. Kerney is close and would make a could rival with Wayne. Lot's of options, but would rather have 1 OOC game per year. Head South, East, West, no more frozen tundra teams in North Dakota.

Genius idea, go to WA and OR, tripling the travel budgets for every school....

I honestly wouldn't rule out both joining in the next few years. It's going to be a tumultuous time in D2 athletics, and I think Upper Iowa moving was just the beginning for NSIC movement. I expect at least one or two more to switch conferences in the next 5 years, and I think that's why stability is going to be important.

We have 15 members, we don't have a stability problem.

Also, I know folks like to wish good things away but Augie is the only one even potentially close to making a D1 move any time in the near future and without the Summit invite, who knows if that will happen.

Now, if things accelerate when the non-power five FBS schools and top tier FCS schools form a new division with altered legislation and then there is a trickle down, then yeah, things will get wild.

                            IMO

I'm not talking about this year. I'm not just talking about Division I.

Sure, then we split and bring in a couple at that point, if needed. It's just not really a "now or never" moment. Unless the conference knows of upcoming movement already.
