Sure, then we split and bring in a couple at that point, if needed. It's just not really a "now or never" moment. Unless the conference knows of upcoming movement already.
Schools on the edge no doubt have already discussed other options. We've heard rumblings about Wayne, Winona, etc. These rumors were around before the Jamestown news and they'd be around after, as much as people want to blame the Jimmies, those discussions have already happened. So the conference needs to prepare for defections. Not by adding programs from Washington or Oregon, South Dakota or Michigan simply because they are already in Division II. There needs to be a strength in numbers from within the footprint.

It wasn't all that long ago South Dakota was discussing closing either DSU or Northern, neither happened so I would worry too much about message board rumblings.
If we aren't worried about a split, and we arent worried about D1, then all we have to fear is fear itself...

University of Jamestown rejoining North Star Athletic Association
by Max O'Neill, InForum
JAMESTOWN - The question of what conference the University of Jamestown's athletic programs will be playing in the 2024-25 academic year has been answered. The Jimmies will compete in the North Star Athletic Association, the conference announced, Tuesday, Nov. 14.
The Jimmies will return to the conference after leaving for the Great Plains Athletic Conference in the 2018-19 academic year. The conference currently includes Valley City State University, Dickinson State University, and Mayville State University.
"We're really happy to be joining the North Star for the 2024-25 season," Jimmies athletic director Austin Hieb said in a statement to the NSAA. "We greatly appreciated Commissioner (Roger) Ternes and Dr. (Alan) LaFave's leadership throughout this process. We expect next year to be great for both our student-athletes and supporters."
On Oct. 11, the member schools of the Great Plains Athletic Conference voted to remove the university from the conference after this academic year, leaving the university without a conference to play in for the 2024-25 year.
In August, UJ submitted an application to join the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference for the 2025-26 season.
The university is hoping to hear about its potential move to the NCAA Division II level and its application to join the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference by the end of this month. To join the conference, the university needs 10 out of 15 member schools in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference to vote UJ in.

Current North Dakota kids on each program's roster:
Minot - 5
Mary - 18
MSUM - 29
Just doing some quick Twitter searches, I don't think more than a few kids on Mary's roster (who actively tweeted out offers received) had an MSUM offer. Whereas a majority of MSUM's kids also received an offer from Mary.
I am obviously a bit biases, but I don't think it is a stretch for me to say that the bulk of the top D2 recruits in North Dakota end up at MSUM. Not to say that some don't go elsewhere in conference & that the division between Mary & MSUM could lessen if Mary keeps progressing and advancing their facilities way beyond what Moorhead has to offer. But to my point, once Jamestown moves into the NSIC and are in the recruiting mix for those 2nd tier Division 2 players in the state, I think they will be looking to steal some kids that would otherwise end up at Mary.

Based on the grumbling in this thread, they are a perfect fit. Unlike UJ, they won something. They are miles upon miles away from anything resembling civilization, which is also a bonus for most NSIC fans, apparently.

I say look at this map, find someone that makes sense and convince them to move. I see 2 teams in SD already isolated, 2 teams in Washington and Oregon that are isolated. Kerney is close and would make a could rival with Wayne. Lot's of options, but would rather have 1 OOC game per year. Head South, East, West, no more frozen tundra teams in North Dakota.

As for BH and Mines out west, we're pretty happy in the RMAC, and I pray that neither AD attempts to move to the NSIC. Both schools have big recruiting bases out of Colorado and Arizona, and the RMAC fits well in this footprint. Both schools have raised the the talent level exponentially from the NAIA days. Plus now that that artist formerly known as Dixie State is gone, there aren't really too many bad road trips. The travel cost would be less in the NSIC, but that would not make up for losing our recruiting base in Colorado. Plus, East River is icky... jk haha
