Speaking of signing day, here's another one from the archives of the local edition---

"Chaump's recruiting list includes 47 future Braves" reads the headline.



Some notable names listed would be future IUP QB Bob Kiel and DT Mark Zilinskas. Also named were some local products such as John Pettina (Indiana), Steve Horchar (Homer-Center), Bob Kelly and Joe Bonatesta (Northern Cambria), and John Fischer (Punxsutawney).

That is quite a number of recruits to be bringing in. Can we assume that most of them were not receiving scholarship money? I highly doubt that IUP football's funding was all that great at that time period. But not sure.

Just found it interesting and thought that I would share.

They would have been receiving scholarship money back then. It sure as heck wasn't nearly as regulated as it was now. Back then they were also allowed to be a lot more creative with where the scholarship money came from. For example, half of my dad's fraternity at Edinboro were football players. One of his closer friends had his football "scholarship" be that he had to work every men's basketball game wiping the floor and assisting the refs. That job "paid" half his tuition. Incredible.

I meant more for the fact he can possibly play there. If you assume both IUP QBs are staying, plus a likely transfer coming, ... the path to get on the field is pretty murky. Not to mention if I went to high school here and grew up here ... I'd probably want to get out of town, too.

Good size on the OL, DL, DBs, and WRs. All in areas of need and upsizing.

Looking forward to hearing the reviews on each player and about inbound transfers.
