My first game there the announced gate was 127 and at least 80 were from IUP. It was funny to see 127 out of 6,000 seats filled. One thing I don't like at Cal is they started pushing in the seats behind the team benches.

Both Cal and IUP have better venues than many, many mid-major D1 programs.

I do agree ... Hamer was a special venue. Man, did IUP and Cal have some wars in there.
Years back, I used to attend high school playoff games at the Hersheypark Arena and the Farm Show. Quite a different atmosphere from your average high school gym. My high school in Illinois actually built a domed gym in '62 that was ahead of its time. The BB court was actually on the second level above the locker rooms and indoor running track. They still use it.

I think they should do a noon tipoff on a weekday and arrange to have elementary schools or middle schools bring their kids. They all leave with a voucher for a free ticket. Let the kids go wild. Put on a good show.

If nobody's going to be there, might as well make it interesting.

I agree with that. It'd be a better return long term

The IUP women's team has done that once a year for the past decade or so. It's a huge success and the players love it. They call it Education Day.

That IS a real great thing to do for the community. ESU used to host a holiday basketball tournament years ago. Shame they don't bring it back!!!
