LEBANON, Ill. – While in the middle of spring practice, the McKendree Bearcat football team is gearing up for a newly formatted spring game. The NCAA passed new legislation back in January of 2023 that permits a scrimmage against a four-year college during its spring practice period as one of its three permissible 11-on-11 scrimmages outside the playing season.
The Bearcats will be traveling down to Joplin, Missouri on the campus of Missouri Southern State University on Friday, April 12th at Fred G. Hughes Stadium. The action will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the cost of entry to the game will be one non-perishable food item to help the Lion Co-Op for their annual food drive.
During the first portion of the event, the Bearcats and Lions will practice together, including individual and group drills, some seven-on-seven action, the lines' of the respective teams against each other and some wide receiver versus defensive back action. This will last about 45 minutes to an hour.
After a short break, the teams will compete in a modified game with limited special teams lasting around an hour and a half.
For those that can't make it to Joplin, you can stay tuned on the McKendree football social media accounts.
