A look at the Lone Star Conference schedule

By D2Football.com staff

The Lone Star Conference has published the composite schedule for the 2025 season. Conference membership remains unchanged from last year with ten total members for participation in football. Eight of the programs making up the league are full members of the Lone Star Conference. Central Washington and Western Oregon are affiliate members for football. Both schools are full members of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference which no longer sponsors football. This fall marks the fourth season of the affiliate membership for both teams.
Each LSC team will play the other nine members of the league which leaves two weeks open for out of conference scheduling. All out of conference games will be played in weeks zero through two. From weeks three though eleven all games will be within the conference.
Angelo State is the defending champion of the LSC. The Rams started last season 0-2 but went 9-0 through the LSC schedule to win the conference title.
The 2025 season will kick off on Thursday, Aug. 28 with four contests. Angelo State will open the season at Fort Hays State of the MIAA for the second year in a row. Last August, the Thursday night season open was postponed to Friday afternoon due to torrential rain in Hays, Kansas. The home team won the outing 21-7. Also on opening night, Eastern New Mexico will host in-state rival New Mexico Highlands from the RMAC.
The most anticipated game of the early non-conference schedule will see defending MIAA champion Central Oklahoma visit UT Permian Basin on Saturday, Aug. 30. That same night, Midwestern State will also face off with an MIAA opponent at Missouri Southern. The Mustangs hosted MSSU in the 2024 opener and won 18-11.
West Texas A&M opens the year with back to back games against RMAC opponents. The Buffs will travel to Western Colorado on Aug. 30, then return home the following Thursday to host Colorado School of Mines. WT played the same opponents last year but lost both contests.
The first full Saturday of the season will take place on Sept. 6 with eight games on the schedule. Among the highlights, Angelo State will stay in the MIAA for the second straight week hosting Emporia State. Central Washington will head to Missoula to take on FCS powerhouse Montana. Western Oregon will host Southern Oregon. The Raiders are an NAIA member coming off an 8-3 season.
The out of conference schedule wraps on Sept. 13 with Texas A&M-Kingsville visiting Northwest Missouri State. Both programs have new coaching staffs this year. Sul Ross will travel to FCS Stephen F. Austin that night was well.
