D2Football.com is pleased to announce the players of the week for week three of the 2025 season. This week’s honorees are Anthony Guercio of Clarion, Leonard Sherrod II of Wheeling and Wingate’s Rivers Teeer.
Offense
Anthony Guercio, QB, Clarion
Clarion extended its season-opening winning streak to four games with 51-38 win over Shepherd last Saturday. Redshirt senior quarterback Anthony Guercio led an offensive explosion that produced more than 600 yards of total offense. He completed 26 of 35 pass attempts for 413 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The passing yardage is the fifth highest single game total in program history. He was sacked just once and also added 60 rushing yards for a total of 473 yards from scrimmage.
Defense
Leonard Sherrod III, DB, Wheeling
Leonard Sherrod III had his hands in all three turnovers created by the Wheeling defense in a 35-28 road victory at Fairmont State. Sherrod had both of Wheeling's interceptions on the day and also recovered a fumble. He also added eight tackles, five of which were solo and broke up two passes. His second interception sealed the victory by ending the Falcons’ final drive on the Wheeling side of the field. To date, he is the MEC leader in total tackles. Leonard Sherrod III is a junior from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Special Teams
Rivers Teeter, P, Wingate
Rivers Teeter punted four times in Wingate’s victory over UVA-Wise, averaging 44.3 yards per punt. It was where those punts landed that defined his impact on the game. Three of of kicks were downed inside the opponent five yard line. In succession, those punts were marked down at the three, two and finally, one yard lines. The redshirt junior from West Columbia, South Carolina also contributed to special teams as the holder for four successful PATs.
