Big Rapids, Mich. - The nation's top-ranked Ferris State University Bulldogs put together a dominating performance to make history on Saturday (Nov. 7) in Detroit, beating Wayne State 80-0 to match an all-time NCAA Division II record with the program's 40th consecutive win.
The Bulldogs improved to 10-0 overall this year and also claimed at least a share of the 2026 GLIAC Championship with the triumph. FSU will have an opportunity officially claim the outright league crown and take over sole possession of the NCAA record next week in the regular-season finale back at home.
The 40th-straight win ties rival Grand Valley State's mark of 40 wins in a a row set from 2005-07. FSU has not dropped a game since the 2024 season opener at Pittsburg State (Kan.).
"I'm proud of our guys for the way they came out and performed today," said FSU head coach Tony Annese. "To think about what these guys have accomplished is pretty extraordinary and they are deserving of the recognition. We came out and played dominant football today and it was a great homecoming for many of our guys from the Detroit area."
FSU ran for 359 yards and six touchdowns, added 261 passing yards and did not punt while notching 620 yards of total offense. The defense held Wayne State to 17 total yards and six first downs in the game while recording four sacks and three interceptions.
Ferris State built a 21-0 first-quarter lead with points from the offense, defense and special teams: Chase Carter hit Kevin Simes for a 50-yard touchdown, Nick Flegler returned a WSU fumble 16 yards for a score, and Taariik Brett added a 67-yard punt-return touchdown. Carter completed 11 of 16 passes for 166 yards in the quarter as Ferris totaled seven first downs, while the Warriors had no first downs and finished 0-for-4 on third down and 0-for-1 on fourth down.
An interception ended the Bulldogs' opening possession at the Warriors' 33, but Jack Lamancusa's tackle for loss helped force a three-and-out before Ferris went 92 yards in five plays, capped by Carter's 50-yard touchdown pass to Simes at 11:34. The Bulldog defense added the next score when Ryan Ahern forced Joseph Lattimore's fumble on a short completion and Flegler recovered it for a touchdown, with Jay Cady's extra point making it 14-0. Brett then returned a punt 67 yards for another touchdown at 7:53, pushing the margin to 21-0. Wayne later turned the ball over on downs at its 32 and recovered a FSU fumble two plays later, but Ferris State got the ball back and drove from its 20 to the WSU 17 as the quarter ended with a 21-0 lead.
