Earlier this week the NCAA Division II membership committee announced the advancement of six schools into full membership status. Among those six schools are three that sponsor football. Jamestown and Roosevelt were transitioning from NAIA competition while Sul Ross was reclassifying from NCAA Division II. All three schools are set to become official Division II members on September 1.
Jamestown will enter its second full season in the NSIC will Sul Ross enters year two in the Lone Star Conference. Roosevelt will kick off year three as a GLIAC competitor this fall. All three programs have had a difficult orientation to Division II. Jamestown picked up just one victory a year ago while Sul Ross went winless in their first year of facing a Division II scheule. Roosevelt has just two GLIAC victories in two seasons. With the provisional membership process behind them, all three will be looking for build for future success in their new conferences.
Additionally, Texas A&M-Texarkana was approved to enter year three of the provisional membership process. The school will launch football in 2027 and compete as a full member of the Lone Star Conference. Ferrum enters year two of the expedited membership process. The school is competing as a full member of Conference Carolinas. Shawnee State is also in the expedited process. The University is transitioning from NAIA and will launch football in 2028. They will compete as a member of the Mountain East Conference.
