This Saturday, top-ranked Ferris State (7-0) will host rival Grand Valley State (4-2) in the annual Anchor-Bone Classic, aiming to extend their program-record winning streak to 22 games. The Bulldogs have been dominant all season, leading the nation in scoring offense (53.9 PPG) and ranking third in scoring defense (8.71 PPG). Redshirt freshman quarterback Wyatt Bower has emerged as a dual-threat star, rushing for 77.9 yards per game with nine touchdowns and throwing for 15 scores without a single interception.
Grand Valley State enters the matchup looking to rebound from a surprising home loss to Saginaw Valley State, their first GLIAC defeat to a team other than Ferris State since 2019. The Lakers will need a strong performance to disrupt Ferris State’s dominance and reclaim momentum in this storied rivalry. A victory is also essential to keeping playoff hopes alive in a very competitive super region.
While Ferris State has controlled the rivalry in recent years—winning seven of the last ten meetings, including a 34-7 rout last season—the overall series since 2000 remains competitive, with Grand Valley State holding a 16-12 edge. However, much of that advantage came during a 12-game win streak from 2000 to 2011.
Due to some scheduling oddities, the Bulldogs have not hosted Grand Valley State since 2022. Including playoff games, the Lakers have hosted the last four meetings. Saturday’s game from Top Taggart Stadium can be viewed live on FloCollege with a kickoff time of 1:00pm, eastern.
