PSAC Week Eight Preview

Week Eight is here as the 75th Anniversary for the PSAC continues. In the PSAC East #3 Kutztown (7-0, 4-0 PSAC East) remains undefeated overall, one of only eight teams in all of D2 still perfect on the season, but the Warriors of East Stroudsburg (6-1, 4-0 PSAC East) share an unblemished divisional record with the Golden Bears. Kutztown heads to West Chester and East Stroudsburg travels to West Virginia to play Shepherd this week before these two teams clash next week at Andre Reed Stadium in Kutztown.

In the PSAC West, the next few weeks should continue to be wild and who knows who will be at the top when the dust settles. That said, we have a big one coming up this Saturday. In my PSAC Game of the Week, California (PA) (5-2, 2-2 PSAC West) heads to IUP (4-2, 2-1 PSAC West) for the 16th annual Coal Bowl game. In addition to those two teams, throw Slippery Rock (5-2, 2-2 PSAC West), along with Clarion (5-2, 1-2, PSAC West), Edinboro (3-4, 2-1 PSAC West), Seton Hill (4-4, 2-2 PSAC West, and yes Gannon (1-6, 1-2 PSAC West) into the mix as well, albeit maybe as a spoiler. Reminder, Gannon’s one victory so far this season was a 38-35 win over Slippery Rock. The Golden Knights still have IUP and California (PA) to play after Edinboro this week. At this point, nothing on paper means anything in the race for the 2025 PSAC West title, it truly is an Any Given Saturday mentality for the whole division from now until the end of the regular season.

We have seen many great individual performances each week of this 2025 season and some guys have been turning in good performances on a consistent basis. The scoring leader in the PSAC heading into this week’s games in Shepherd’s Jordan Barnett. As the number four ranked running back in the conference at 99.6 yards per game, he has 11 touchdowns averaging scoring 9.4 points per game which are both the highest in the PSAC. Slippery Rock running back JayJay Jordan is leading the PSAC in rushing averaging 141.6 yards per game along with eight touchdowns. IUP has the number one ranked passer, Matthew Rueve, averaging 306 yards per game along with 18 touchdowns. Davon Jones, from Clarion, leads all receivers in the PSAC averaging 90 yard per game and his Golden Eagle teammate on defense, Griffin Buzzel, leads the PSAC averaging 11.9 tackles per game along with having four sacks. The PSAC leaders in sacks are both averaging 1.0 sacks a game, East Stroudsburg’s Ashton Blose (7 total) and IUP’s Logan Goodwin (6 total). Goodwin also leads the PSAC in Tackles for Loss averaging 1.83 a game (11 total). Seton Hill’s Darius Patterson leads the PSAC with five interceptions and Clarion’s Zay Brisbane leads the conference in passes defended with 10. Slippery Rock’s Brett Kwoka leads the PSAC with three recovered fumbles. On special teams, kicker Harry Radcliffe, from California (PA), has made 11 field goals and Shepherd’s Daishaun Alexander averages 45.3 yards per punt, with 11 placed inside the 20 and 10 of 50+ yards and a long of 75, to lead the PSAC.

Keep reading for an update on who the top teams are in the conferences now making up Super Region One as we head into the latter part of the regular season, my PSAC Power Ranking heading into Week Eight, my predictions for all of this week’s games, and my weekly look at how future PSAC member, Lackawanna College, is doing with their current NJCAA season.

Super Region One Top Teams heading into Week Eight:

CIAA – #14 Virginia Union (6-1, 4-0 CIAA) Fayetteville State (4-3, 4-0 CIAA) #21 Johnson C. Smith (6-1, 3-1 CIAA)

Noteworthy: #21 Johnson C. Smith plays at Fayetteville State on 11/1/25

MEC - Frostburg State (6-1, 4-1 MEC), Charleston (4-3, 3-1 MEC), Glenville State (4-3, 3-1 MEC), Wheeling (4-3, 3-1 MEC)

Noteworthy: Frostburg beat Charleston last week 32-30 (3OT). Frostburg is at Wheeling this Saturday in Week Eight and at California (PA) on 11/1/25.

NE10 – Assumption (5-1, 4-0 NE10), Saint Anselm (5-2, 4-1 NE10), Bentley (3-3, 3-1 NE10),

Noteworthy: Assumption’s only loss is to #3 Kutztown, 51-24 in their opener. They already beat Saint Anselm 30-8 and play at Bentley on 11/8/25.

PSAC - #3 Kutztown (7-0, 4-0 PSAC East), East Stroudsburg (6-1, 4-0 PSAC East), Slippery Rock (5-2, 2-2 PSAC West), California (PA) (5-2, 2-2 PSAC West), IUP (4-2, 2-1 PSAC West)

Noteworthy: Kutztown has the number one ranked scoring offense (43.7 PPG) and number one ranked scoring defense (7.4 PPG) in the PSAC. IUP has the second ranked scoring offense (37.2 PPG) and second ranked scoring defense (17.0 PPG) in the PSAC. This week’s big game is California (PA) at IUP. Next week’s games of interest on 11/1/25: East Stroudsburg at #3 Kutztown, Clarion at Slippery Rock, and Frostburg State (MEC) at California (PA).

Reminder for the 2025 season, each conference champion in Super Region One will be included in the Super Region One Playoff Bracket. This year there will be eight teams playing in the Super Region One Playoffs, not seven like last year and in the recent past, meaning all teams will play in the first round and the number one seed will not have a bye week like last year and in the recent past.

PSAC Power Ranking (PPR) heading into Week Eight:

  1. #3 Kutztown (7-0, 4-0 PSAC East)
  2. East Stroudsburg (6-1, 4-0 PSAC East)

  14. Bloomsburg (1-6, 0-4 PSAC East)
  15. Millersville (0-7, 0-4 PSAC East)

A reminder on how my PSAC Power Ranking (PPR), what I base my predictions on, works: number one would beat everyone below them this week, two would beat numbers three on down, and so on. It changes week to week.
