PSAC Week Nine Preview

Gameday is here and another action-packed Saturday of PSAC football is coming up today in Week Nine. In the PSAC East #3 Kutztown (8-0, 5-0 PSAC East) can secure their spot in the PSAC Championship Game in two weeks with a win today over East Stroudsburg (6-2, 4-1 PSAC East) who lost to Shepherd  (4-4, 4-1 PSAC East) 26-23 last week. In the Wild PSAC West, IUP (5-2, 3-1 PSAC West), Edinboro (4-4, 3-1 PSAC West), Clarion (6-2, 2-2 PSAC West), and Slippery Rock (5-2, 2-2 PSAC West) are all still in the mix for the west crown. The simplest scenario is for IUP to win their next two games, at home with Gannon today and at Clarion next week. They previously beat Edinboro 35-12 in early October giving them the advantage of the head to head win even if Edinboro wins out as well. We should have a clearer picture heading into Week Ten next week after today’s games are played. IUP hosts Gannon today and Edinboro travels to Seton Hill. The game which will definitely impact one of the aforementioned teams most today is when Clarion travels to Slippery Rock. One of those two teams will leave that game with three losses in the division and realistically out of contention for the west title.

In Super Region One news, the NCAA released their first regional rankings for this 2025 season earlier this week. This first list was an alphabetical list of ten teams for each Super Region. Here is the list for Super Region One (PSAC, CIAA, MEC, NE10): Assumption (NE10), California (PA) (PSAC West), Charleston (WV) (MEC), Fayetteville State (CIAA), #25 Frostburg State (MEC), IUP (PSAC West), #19 Johnson C. Smith (CIAA), #3 Kutztown (PSAC East), Slippery Rock (PSAC West), and #13 Virginia Union (CIAA). Next week’s list will be in a numerical ranking. Some key games happening today that will have an impact on the rankings are Fayetteville State at #19 Johnson C. Smith, and #25 Frostburg State at California (PA) in a MEC at PSAC West matchup. Reminder for the 2025 season, each conference champion in Super Region One will be included in the Super Region One Playoff Bracket. Current leaders in the non PSAC conferences are Assumption (NE10), #25 Frostburg State (MEC), and #13 Virginia Union (CIAA). Also, this year, with each conference champion now making the playoff field, there will be eight teams playing in the Super Region One Playoffs, not seven like last year and in the recent past. This means all the teams will play in the first round and the number one seed will not have a bye week like last year..
