PSAC Week Nine Preview

Week Nine is coming up in the PSAC and we now know who will be representing the West, #8 Slippery Rock, in the PSAC Championship Game to be played in Week Eleven on November 14th. We need at least one more week, possibly two, to see who will be representing the East. That said, my PSAC Game of the Week for this Saturday will begin to make the picture in the East a little more clear as #4 Kutztown (8-0, 4-0 PSAC East) pays a visit to #20 East Stroudburg (7-1, 4-0 PSAC East). Worth mentioning is that East Stroudsburg’s only loss on the season was to Slippery Rock, 59-35, back on September 12th in a Divisional Crossover Game. Also still in the mix in is Bloomsburg (6-2, 3-1 PSAC East). Their only Eastern Division loss was to East Stroudsburg, 34-0, on October 10th. They also lost a Divisional Crossover Game to Edinboro, 9-6, back on September 12th.

The second NCAA D2 NPI Rankings, which will be used to determine playoff teams at the end of the regular season, were released last Sunday morning. In Super Region One, Slippery Rock (8-0) was ranked number one (also ranked number one overall out of all four Super Regions), Kutztown (7-0) number two (ranked number eight overall out of all four Super Regions), East Stroudsburg (5-1) number three (ranked number 11 overall out of all four Super Regions), and IUP (5-3) number eight, giving the PSAC four teams in the Top 10. Here are the rest of the top teams currently in Super Region One: In the CIAA, 4. Virginia State (7-0) 5. Virginia Union (7-1), 7. Bowie State (4-2) and 10. Johnson C Smith (6-2). In the MEC, 6. West Liberty (7-1). In the NE10, 9. Assumption (5-2). The next five teams after the Top 10 in Super Region One are all from the PSAC: 11. California (PA) (5-3), 12. Shepherd (5-3), 13. Bloomsburg (5-2), 14. Seton Hill (3-4), and 15. Lock Haven (4-4).

There were changes in numbers four through 11 in my PSAC Power Ranking (PPR) after the Week Eight games were played. Reminder, the way my PPR works is that #1 would beat every other team if they played them in a game this week. #2 would beat #3 on down and so on. Here is my PPR heading into Week Nine action:
