PSAC Week Ten Preview

Week Ten is coming up in the PSAC and after last week we now know who will be joining #7 Slippery Rock (up one spot in this week’s D2 Top 25 Poll) in the PSAC Championship Game on November 14th in Week Eleven. #16 East Stroudsburg (up four spots in this week’s D2 Top 25 Poll) punched their ticket to the PSAC Championship Game last Saturday by beating #10 Kutztown (down six spots in this week’s D2 Top 25 Poll) 32-25 in an overtime thriller. East Stroudsburg kicker Ty Quintois, who was named the D2 National Special Teams Player of the Week, was the difference maker in this one. He kicked six field goals on the afternoon for the Warriors. East Stroudsburg’s only loss this season was to Slippery Rock, 59-35, back on September 12th in a Divisional Crossover Game at home. The Warriors will get another shot at the Rock in two weeks, in Week Eleven, this time on the road. Before we get to Week Eleven, the PSAC Championship Game and Crossover Games for all the PSAC teams with the East visiting the West, we still have the last week of Divisional Games coming up here in Week Ten. My PSAC Game of the Week for this week has Bloomsburg paying a visit to Kutztown in a battle for second place in the East, with both teams only loss in division to East Stroudsburg. Bloomsburg lost to East Stroudsburg, 34-0, on October 10th. The Huskies also lost a Divisional Crossover Game to Edinboro, 9-6, back on September 12th. This Bloomsburg and Kutztown game also has major Super Region One Playoffs implications as well. In Week Eleven, Bloomsburg will play at California (PA) and Kutztown plays at Seton Hill. More on the Super Region One Playoff picture is below.

The third NCAA D2 NPI Rankings, which will be used to determine playoff teams at the end of the regular season, were released on Sunday morning. In Super Region One, Slippery Rock (9-0) was ranked number one (ranked number two overall out of all four Super Regions), East Stroudsburg (7-1) number two (ranked number 7 overall out of all four Super Regions), and Kutztown (7-1) number three (ranked number 15 overall out of all four Super Regions). Also in the Top 10 this week in SR 1 from the PSAC: 7. California (PA) (6-3), 8. IUP (6-3), and 9. Bloomsburg (6-2). Here are the rest of the top teams currently in Super Region One: from the CIAA, 4. Virginia Union (8-1), 5. Johnson C. Smith (7-2), 6. Virginia State (7-1) and 10. Fayetteville State (6-3). After Shepherd (6-3) from the PSAC at 11, we have 12. West Liberty (7-1) from the MEC and 13. Assumption (6-2) from the NE10. The final eight teams who eventually make it onto the SR1 Playoff Bracket at the end of the regular season will include a combination of automatic qualifiers (each conference champion) and the remaining spots filled by at large qualifiers based upon the NPI Rankings.

After Week Nine, there were changes at the top down through number 12 in my PSAC Power Ranking (PPR). Reminder, the way my PPR works is that #1 would beat every other team if they played them in a game this week. #2 would beat #3 on down and so on. Here is my PPR heading into Week Ten action:
