SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University football program announced one of the largest recruiting classes in program history with 49 new additions Wednesday on National Signing Day.
The Rock welcomed 10 mid-year transfer students in January that are already on campus and will participate in spring practices. SRU also announced the signings of 39 incoming high school students Wednesday on the annual National Signing Day.
"We're really excited about this class both in the size and the quality of the class," said head coach Shawn Lutz. "In the crazy transfer portal era, it feels like high school players are being left out by a lot of programs. We know how important it is to develop talent in our program and we think signing 39 high school guys shows that. We also know we have to balance that with some portal guys and we are really happy with the mid-year guys we added. We picked up a lot of experienced guys, especially from the Division III level, that are really good players, good students and really wanted to be here and be part of this program."
The Rock's 10 mid-year players include multiple standouts from Division III programs, including an all-conference offensive lineman, running back and wide receiver.
The high school class includes eight players that either won a state title or played on a team that was a state runner-up.
"We love getting guys from winning programs because they want to keep winning," said Lutz. "We got guys in the class that won or played for state titles in multiple states."
The high school class is headlined by a three-star athlete in two-time Big 22 Player of the Year Juelz Johnson from state runner-up Farrell. The class also includes numerous players that were all-state honorees and more than 30 players that were at least all-conference honorees at their high school.
The total class, including the 10 transfers, includes players from six different states with athletes coming from Pennsylvania (36), Ohio (8), New York (2), Michigan (1), Maryland (1) and Virginia (1).
The class also includes players at every position on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball and a transfer kicker.

Slippery Rock will open spring practices in March before hosting the annual Green vs. White Spring Game Friday evening, Apri 24. The 2026 season will officially begin with a "Week Zero" home game Thursday night, Aug. 27 against nationally ranked Minnesota Duluth.
