From Seton Hill sports information:
The Seton Hill University football program has announced a change in the football coaching staff on Friday morning. Dan Day has stepped down from his role as head coach, and defensive coordinator Kevin May has been promoted to Head Coach.
Day plans to pursue other opportunities outside of football after his sixth season at the helm of the Griffin football program. The Springfield, OH native helped guide the Griffins to a record-breaking campaign in 2023, posting a 6-5 overall record and a 4-3 record in PSAC West play. Also during the 2023 campaign, Day became the All Time Winningest Coach in Seton Hill program history.
"Words cannot begin to express my appreciation for the opportunity to lead this program," said Day. "First and foremost to Mary Finger for trusting in my leadership as an alum to take over this program in 2018. To Rosalie Carpenter, thank you for your unwavering support of our program, and more importantly our players. I have rarely worked for an individual that truly lives their mission day in and day out the way that you do. There obviously needs to be a huge THANK YOU to Chris Snyder! Thank you for being a great coach and mentor as well as believing in my ability to turn Seton Hill football back into the program it was. We have achieved so many milestones and accomplishments in our six seasons here that it is truly remarkable. Lastly I cannot express the gratitude I have for the absolutely amazing young men that have been involved in the process of rebuilding this football program. There are so many memories and relationships that have been built through this journey that it has been such a special place. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your lives for the last 7 years."
"Coach Day's departure from Seton Hill is incredibly emotional for me," said Seton Hill Athletic Director Chris Snyder. "Dan was recruited to come to the "Hill" to be a member of our first football team in 2005, our team was basically all freshman and they went through a very demanding preseason camp. All of the players were told that those that make it all four years, they would be winners. During Coach Day's senior season, the team finished 10-2 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA playoffs. I'm incredibly proud of Dan's career post graduation and even more proud of what he has accomplished since returning to his Alma Mater to lead our program. Our football program is poised to keep growing and developing for years to come. As we move forward, I am more than excited and confident that Kevin May, who has served as our defensive coordinator since Coach Day's return to SHU, will now take the reigns and lead our football team. He has recently been recognized by the AFCA as a member of the "35 under 35" as one of the best coaches in the country (Division I, II III). Kevin is beloved by our players, produced outstanding defenses for us, as well as coached multiple PSAC West Defensive Players of the Year and I'm confident he will continue to build our program that competes in the very challenging PSAC."
