Week 10 Matchups (SIAC teams denoted in bold)
Albany State (8-1, 7-0) vs Savannah State (Game-Site Columbus, Ga)
The Golden Rams come into this matchup with a spot in the SIAC championship game and home-field in that contest already wrapped up. But motivation shouldn’t be an issue as Fort Valley State is their arch rival. This matchup is dubbed the Fountain City Classic and is played at AJ McClung stadium in Columbus, Ga. The Rams have not only gone undefeated in conference play this year, but have absolutely dominated the conference statistically. They rank first in scoring offense and scoring defense as well as first in total offense and third in total defense.
The Wildcats from Fort Valley would like to end their season with a huge win over their arch rival. Albany State was able to keep FVSU out of the SIAC championship game last year with a win in the Fountain City Classic. The Wildcats have won three straight after opening the season 1-5. Their defense has been their calling card this year and are second in total defense and third in scoring defense. They’ll need a big day from their defense to keep Isaiah Knowles and the ASU offense in check. Last week Saadiq Teel started and played well at quarterback for the Wildcats. Whether it’s he, Don Hudson or both against the Golden Rams, they’ll need to play mistake free football.
Can Fort Valley end their 2025 season with a big upset win or will Albany State go marching into the conference championship game undefeated in SIAC play?
PREDICTION
Albany State 24 Fort Valley State 16
Edward Waters (5-4, 4-3) at Allen (4-5, 4-3)
The Tigers got off to a blistering start this year but have cooled down in recent weeks. After a 3-0 start, Edward Waters has lost four out of six games. Noah Bodden has been interception prone in recent weeks and turnovers have played a big part in their recent slide. A win over Allen this week guarantees the Tigers a winning season in Coach Brian Jenkins first year at the helm.
The Yellow Jackets season unfolded quite opposite of their opponent. After an 0-2 start, Allen has gone 4-3 and have reeled off two straight victories. A win against Edward Waters this week will see Allen finish 5-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play. No one likes a losing season and I expect junior quarterback Jamir Dismukes to lay it all out on the line to avoid being under .500 while also helping finish the season out on a three-game winning streak.
Will the momentum continue in the direction its going or can Edward Waters finish their season out on senior day with a victory?
PREDICTION
Allen 28 Edward Waters 27
Morehouse (3-6, 3-4) at Clark-Atlanta (2-7, 1-6)
Morehouse has been up-and-down much of the season. They are extremely talented at the quarterback position with Miles Scott taking the snaps. Scott can be trigger happy at times and can throw interceptions that turn the game in the wrong direction for the Maroon Tigers. But he is also capable of taking over games and leading his teams to victory like he did against Tuskegee earlier this year.
Clark-Atlanta’s season had a lot of promise as the Panthers started out 2-1 and were a field goal short of being 3-0. But ever since that solid start the Panthers have lost six straight games and enter their rivalry matchup with Morehouse on a long losing skid. The Panthers offense knows how to get up and down the field as they are fifth in the SIAC in total offense gaining 363.4 per contest. Unfortunately, their defense comes in 13th, which is good for last place, giving up over 400 yards per game.
This game was first contested in 1900 and Clark-Atlanta holds a 51-37 overall advantage. A win for either program can make this season feel much less bitter. Who will stand tallest in this classic Atlanta rivalry?
PREDICTION
Morehouse 42 Clark-Atlanta 24
Tuskegee (3-6, 2-5) at Miles (3-7, 3-4)
I don’t think either Tuskegee or Miles thought they’d be in this position at the start of the season. Tuskegee started the season 2-0 and looked poised to be a real player in the SIAC this year. Fast forward eight weeks and the Golden Tigers have lost six out of seven games. The offense never quite looked the same after the loss of quarterback Raequan Beal. The Golden Tigers would love to defeat Miles to end the season and try to carry some of the momentum over to next season as they have been playing some young guys recently.
The Golden Bears started the season 0-6 after winning the SIAC crown just a season ago. But quarterback Brinley Vandiver really found his rhythm in the second half of the season after taking over for the incumbent Kam Ivory. Winners of three of their last four, Miles has to feel better about things as the season wraps up than they did just a few short weeks ago.
The Golden Bears and the Golden Tigers are both looking for the golden finish. Who will end the 2025 season on a more golden note?
PREDICTION
Miles 24 Tuskegee 20
Kentucky State (7-2, 6-1) at Lane (0-9, 0-7)
The Thorobreds enter their regular season finale against Lane College needing a win and potentially some help to gain access to the SIAC championship game. Kentucky State is tied with Benedict College at 6-1 in conference play and they are both hoping to snag that second position. KSU’s offense was fantastic last week as quarterback Denim Johnson threw for 413 yards and five touchdowns. Most of that damage was done throwing to Darius Cyprian who finished with six receptions for 254 yards and three touchdowns. That’s 42.3 yards per catch. Wow! Defensively, the Thorobreds struggled against the pass giving up 425 yards through the air.
The Dragons have been much more competitive in recent weeks but have still found themselves as the only winless team in the SIAC. Their last two defeats have come by a total of nine points. They have played better defensively as of late, but must pick up their offensive production to keep up with Kentucky State this week. Quarterback Nick Billoups is the leading rusher with 318 yards on the season as well as having thrown for 1035 yards. He’ll need to be at his dual threat best to pull off the major upset this weekend.
Can the Dragons pull off the upset or will Kentucky State play their part in attempting to get in the SIAC championship game?
PREDICTION
Kentucky State 42 Lane 13
Benedict (8-1, 6-1) at Savannah State (4-5, 3-4)
Benedict enters the final week of the 2025 regular season in the same situation as Kentucky State. Win and hope to get the help necessary to get in the conference championship game. Benedict’s defense has been their strength this season and they’re expected to do a great job against a struggling Savannah State offense. But Darius Ocean and company will have to play well to best the number one team in total defense in the SIAC.
The Tigers from Savannah will rely heavily on their top-rated defense in their 2025 swan song. They’ll hope to be opportunistic against a good, but turnover prone Benedict offense. Offensively, it’s been a rotating cast at the quarterback position for Savannah State. A good dose of Joseph Hampton and stout defensive play may be exactly what they need to be successful against the 8-1 Benedict Tigers.
Can Savannah State finish the season out strong, or will Benedict get the victory while attempting to punch their ticket to the SIAC title game.
PREDICTION
Savannah State 17 Benedict 13
SEASON PREDICTIONS
Last Week 6-1
Overall 53-20
***If Kentucky State and Benedict both win this week and are tied for second place they will use a tie-breaker system that has six levels to determine who will play Albany State in the SIAC championship game. The first is head-to-head which did not happen for these two teams. We will sort out who and how in next week’s column if there is a tie for second place.
