Wayne State University announced the resignation of head coach Tyrone Wheatley on Tuesday, Feb. 10. Wheatley recently completed his third season as head coach. The Warriors were winless in 2025.
"As head football coach, I accept full responsibility for the program and the standards that come with this role," stated Wheatley. "After thoughtful reflection, I have decided to step down, believing this is the right decision for the student-athletes and the university. I am sincerely grateful to our players, coaching and support staff, alumni, and supporters for their dedication and belief -- it has been a privilege to serve this community."
Within hours of the press release announcing Wheatley's departure, Wayne State Athletics issued another press release announcing the hiring of Terrence Isaac, Sr. The Warriors new leader comes from Rochester Community and Technical College in Minnesota. In four seasons as head coach, he led the program to a conference championship in 2023, was two-time conference coach of the year and NJCAA National coach of the year in 2023.
