JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Mars Hill (4-0, 3-0 South Atlantic Conference) blanked No. 16/22 Carson-Newman (4-1, 2-1 SAC) after halftime to pave the way for a 10-6 comeback win Saturday afternoon at Burke-Tarr Stadium.
The loss snaps Carson-Newman's 13-game home win streak, the third-longest active win streak in the country and the sixth-longest home winning streak in school history. The Lions are the first team to hold C-N without an offensive TD since Newberry beat the Eagles 34-3 on Oct. 23, 2021.
"I'm disappointed just like all those guys in the locker room are," head coach Tyler Almond said. "We made some critical mistakes and they cost us in a tight ball game. We knew coming in that they were really good on defense. There are a lot of positives, we played hard and did some nice things defensively, but ultimately our mistakes cost us today."
Mars Hill limited Carson-Newman to 42 yards of offense in the second half. The Eagles only had one first down in the second half and were 1-for-7 on third downs. Yet, C-N led for the majority of the second stanza.
